Quaid, age 89, long time San Benito County resident passed away peacefully, Tuesday August 16, 2005 at Mabie Northside after a valiant fight with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nellie Hine, brothers, Wesley and Leslie and her beloved husband of 52 years, Kenneth Quaid-native son of San Benito County. Dorothy is survived by her son, Richard Quaid and his wife Karen of Mountain View, CA, granddaughter, Diane of Oakley, CA, grandsons, Peter and his wife Julie of Hollywood, FL, Rev. Patrick Quaid and his wife Melissa of Waukee, IA, Bryan of Allen, TX, great grandchildren, Jack, Lily and Harry of Hollywood, FL, and niece Phyllis Hine Gonzales of San Juan Bautista, CA. Date: Tuesday, 1 Jun 2010 Margery Irene Quigg was born December 8, 1918 to Jesse & Hazel (Gillis) Knepper in Winfield, Kansas. She passed away May 28, 2010 at the Harper Hospital at the age of 91. Margery graduated from Southwestern College in Home Economics in 1941. She taught School in Lincolnville for a few years. During the war, Margery worked at MDI and The Yard, which is a division of Beech Aircraft in Wichita. She married Lester A. Quigg on March 14, 1948 in Harper. Margery became a homemaker and helped her husband farm. Lester passed away April 12, 1961. During the 60's and 70's Margery was a bookkeeper for Adamson Oil and Sneary Brothers of Harper. Margery enjoyed her family, gardening, baking, reading, and her club meetings. She especially enjoyed going to the grandkids events. She was a member of Friday Afternoon Club, Duquoin HDU, and the Harper United Methodist Church. Margery was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lester and her Brother, Merle Knepper. She is survived by son, John Quigg & his wife Kathy; daughter Joyce Roe; four Grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, One great-great-grandchild and her brother Carl Knepper.

Date: Monday, 21 July 1952, Page 3 Irwin B. Rauch, 76, retired employee of the Reading Railroad, died yesterday morning in the Allentown Hospital where he had been a patient for six days. He had resided at 441 Franklin St., Alburtis. A foreman in the railway maintenance crew, Rauch was employed by the Reading line for 30 years before ill health prompted his retirement in 1932. Born in District Township, Berks County, he was a son of the late Charles A. and Hannah M. (Beitler) Rauch. He was a member of the Lutheran congregation of Longswamp Union Church. He is survived by his wife, Katie L. (Romig) Rauch; a son, Clayton L., at home, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a brother, Henry, Alburtis R. 1. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Elsie Hartzell and Mrs. Edith Roth, and two sons, Raymond and Claude.

Date: Sunday, 5 February 2006 Agnes E. Aggie Reagle, 86, of Mount Bethel, Pa., passed away peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2006 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born April 3, 1919 in North Bangor, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clayton and Mary (Mann) Lambert. She and her husband, Arthur E. Bud Reagle, celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last June 14. Aggie worked beside her husband in their oil business, Reagle & King Inc., Mount Bethel, for 35 years until retiring in 1984. She also collected antiques and had her own shop, the Village Center Shop. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Mount Bethel, where she served in many capacities. She was a founding member of the Slate Belt Museum, Mount Bethel and a member of the Mount Bethel Firemens auxiliary. In 1982 she was honored by the Portland/Mount Bethel Chamber of Commerce as Person of the Year for her dedication and public service to the community. Date: Monday, 29 April 1996 Woodrow W. Reimer, 81, of 2820 N. Delaware Drive, Mount Bethel, died Sunday at home. He was the husband of Dorothy (Dutt) Reimer. They were married 57 years in January. In 1942, he and his brother, the late David Reimer, founded Reimer Brothers Fuel Inc., Pen Argyl, where he worked before retiring in 1981. He was the husband of the late Grace M. (Deibert) Reinert, who entered eternal life in 2002 after 60 years of marriage. Born in Lehigh Township, he was the son of the late Lewis S. and Cora V. (Best) Reinert. Enlisting in the Air Force in 1943, he received his gunnery school training at Kingman (Ariz.) Air Field. After being discharged from active duty in 1945, he joined the Reserves after retiring as a major in 1972. Lawrence worked in sales and services for S & L Plastics, Nazareth, before retiring in 1985 after 25 years. He attended the Lutheran Orthodox Church at the Village at Palmerton. A brother Raymond H. Leibenguth of Allentown is a survivor. Born in Northampton, Mrs. Reynolds was a daughter of the late Samuel P. and Minerva M. nee Bartholomew Leibenguth. She was graduated from the Kutztown State Teachers college in 1924 and taught for several years in the Bethlehem township schools. For the past few years she has been teaching in West Berlin, N. J. She was a member of the Lutheran church. Surviving are her husband and a daughter Nancy Ellen at home, her brother Raymond of Allentown and a sister, Evelyn R. Leibenguth of Wilson Borough. Born June 20, 1922 in Jackson Township, Luzerne County, (Ceasetown), she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Julia (Layou) Cragle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren W. Rhinard, on April 29, 2003. Mrs. Rhinard was a longtime employee of Milco Industries in Benton, where she worked until the plant closed. She had previously worked for Consolidated Cigar Corporation in Berwick. She attended Ceasetown schools. Mrs. Rhinard was amember of the Jonestown United Methodist Church, where she been active with the Ladies Aid Society and assisted with cooking for the church festivals and dinners. She was also a member of the Benton Grange and before that the Bendertown Grange. Years ago, she had served as a den mother for the Bendertown Cub Scouts. Surviving are her two sons: Robert E. Rhinard and his wife Linda, Norfolk, Va; and Keith J. Rhinard, Pottstown; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two sisters: Alberta Ide, Binghamton, N.Y.; and Bertha Kittle, Sweet Valley and a brother Jerry Cragle, Binghamton, N.Y. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by the following siblings: Stanley Cragle, Richard Cragle, Ernest Cragle and Emily Lee. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (Rt. 487). Kenneth Rhinard, 78, of 131 Hill Road, Orangeville, Fishingcreek Township, died early Sunday morning, Sept. 28, 2003, at Bonham Nursing Center, Huntington Township, where he had been a resident since May 22. He had been in declining health for the past three years. Born in Fishingcreek Township, Columbia County, June 2, 1925, he was a son of the late Orvie D. Rhinard and Cora E. (Hess) Rhinard. Mr. Rhinard was a 1943 graduate of Benton High School and lived at his last address since 1948. A lifelong Fishingcreek Township resident, Mr. Rhinard was a farmer most of his life. He also drove school bus for the Benton Area School District for 54 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Jonestown United Methodist Church. In the 1960s and 1970s, he served as a Fishingcreek Township Supervisor. He also served on the Benton Area School District Board of Directors for 12 years. Mr. Rhinard was a well known baseball player, playing for and managing several local amateur baseball teams. He managed the former Stillwater Cardinals, the Bendertown Aces, the Berwick Red Sox and the team in Jonestown. He also played for Huntington Mills and in a Sunday league in Sweet Valley. An avid outdoorsman, he was a sports fan who also enjoyed hunting. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Warren W. Rhinard, on April 27. He is survived by his wife, Hilda (Johnson) Rhinard, with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage Jan. 29; three children: Glen H. Rhinard, Jonestown, Edwin W. Rhinard, Tunkhannock; and Rebecca J. Rhinard, Jonestown; one grandson; and four siblings: Audrey Reed, Allenwood; Mrs. Richard D. (Ruth) Wenner, Stillwater; Roy Rhinard, Stillwater; Mrs. William (Shirley) Avery, Orangeville. A mechanic, years ago he owned and operated the Benton Texaco service station. Mr. Rhinard was also a bus driver for the Benton Area School District for many years, and retired in the mid 1990s. Active in the Boy Scouts, he attained the Silver Beaver Award. Mr. Rhinard played baseball in his earlier years in the North Branch League for Jonestown and Bendertown, and for the Tri-County League for Benton. He also umpired baseball games for several years. He was a member of the Benton VFW; the former Bendertown Grange, and the Benton Fire Co. He also served with the Benton Auxiliary Police. He is survived by his wife, the former Esther Elizabeth Cragle, with whom he would have celebrated a 57th wedding anniversary on Nov. 15; Robert E. Rhinard, Norfolk, Va.; and Keith J. RIBLET will be received with deep regret by a large circle of friends and associates. Mr. RIBLET was born on Nov. 6, 1845, in the then borough, now city of Erie. He was the son of Jonathan and Sophia (Fluke) RIBLET. He was educated in the public schools of Erie and was graduated from the Erie Academy in the summer of 1864. He learned the cabinet makers trade with his father. At the age of 19 he entered the law office of Gunnison and McCreary, attorneys, as a law student and was admitted to the Bar of Erie County on Oct. 3, 1867. On the 18th of November 1869, he was united in marriage with Miss Pauline Hayes Carpenter, of Painesville, Ohio, who died May 25, 1879. A daughter, Mrs. Warner W. THOMAS, Jr., was born of this marriage, who still survives. In 1881 he was again married to Miss Gertrude Agnes Gaillard, who with one son, Harry G. RIBLET, survive. Mr. RIBLET was a man of high ideals, a deep student, well liked by all who knew him. He was a member of the Erie Co. Bar for over 52 years, a successful practitioner of law. He was also a successful businessman, acquiring real estate extensively.

Eppley, 195 Spring street, Morrellville, in her 80th year. The deceased was a daughter of the late Bishop Solomon Benshoff of the Dunkard Church, and lived all her life in this vicinity. She was born March 5, 1887. The funeral will take place from the Eppley home at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning the services to be conducted by the Rev. W. S. Baker pastor of the Rosedale Brethren Church with burial in the Banshoff's Cemetery. Mrs. Ribblett is survived by three children: Hannah wife of Daniel Hager and Lucy, wife of Jesse Croyle, both of West Taylor Township; Mrs. Elizabeth Rager, of Doris; Catherine, wife of Alfred Dick, of Seward and John Ribblett of the Seventh Ward. She is also survived by a brother, John Benshoff, of Westmont; 37 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. The deceased husband died August 3, 1893.

Date: Monday, 13 December 1999 Vera Gladys Rolen, 91, a resident of The Dalles, died at her home on Dec. 11, 1999. She was born Dec. 10, 1908 in Hickman, Neb., the youngest of seven children to Franklin Seymour and Hattie Belle (Ewing) Knepper. She grew up in Parks, Neb. She married Robert DeLee Rolen on Oct. 14, 1926 in Wray, Colo. They lived in parks until moving to Twin Falls, Idaho in 1939. Several years later, they moved to Portland, where Vera worked as a welder in the shipyards during the war. In 1952 Robert and Vera settled in The Dalles, and he worked construction; she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Methodist Church, an avid sewer, liked handiwork, quilts and crocheting. She enjoyed the outdoors and flower gardening and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the center of her life. She is surviveed by her sons Robert D. Rolen Jr. and his wife Zada and Harold and Etta Rolen, The Dalles; grandchildren and their spouses, Robert III and Margaret Rolen, Hermiston; Susan and Jack Pincock, Cynthia and Dave Gardipee and Richard and Patty Rolen, all of the The Dalles; Melinds Beyers of Gladstone; and Roger and Denise Rolen, Oregon City; 16 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and her brother, Alvin Knepper of Wauneta, Neb. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1993, a great grandson and five brothers. Date: Tuesday, 10 Aug 2004 Lyle Allen Rolofson, age 97, passed away August 6, 2004 in San Antonio, Texas. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska on May 7, 1907 to George L. and Jennie M. (Knepper) Rolofson, Lyle was the tenth of thirteen brothers and sisters. He graduated from School of Agriculture High School and the University of Nebraska. He married Maxine Wilkinson of Patterson, Missouri in 1937. To that union were born three children, William Elwin 'Jimmy,' Lyle, Jr., and Jean Anne. He served as an Armor Officer in the United States Army in World War II in North Africa and Italy. He retired from the Lincoln Public Schools in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1972. Following his retirement, he fine-tuned his golf game only finally giving up the game a couple of years ago. He did volunteer work with his church group and was always available to help a friend or neighbor in need. He was truly devoted to his family. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, his son, 'Jimmy,' and his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Maxine; his son, Lyle, Jr. and wife, Marti of Lenexa, Kansas; his daughter, Jean Anne and husband, George Samaras of San Antonio, Texas; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 13, at Wyuka funeral Home, in Lincoln. CELEBRATION OF LIFE AUGUST 14, 2004 10:00 A.M. Source: Journal Star, Lincoln, Nebraska Date: December 1985 Marguerite LaRue (Stearnes) Rolofson, daughter of Glen Robert and Thelma (Stearns) Stearnes, was born December 13, 1927, at Lincoln, NE. When Marguerite was only three years od, her mother died. Later her father was married to Mary Julia Saul. Marguerite received her early schooling in Lincoln, and graduated from the Raymond High School in 1945. She confessed her faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, was baptized, and became a member of the Methodist Church in Raymond. Her membership was later transferred to the United Methodist Church in Greenwood. She was married to Wayne Edward Rolofson on June 21, 1947, at Lincoln. After their marriage they made their home near Raymond. Later they lived in Walton, and 1959 moved to their present home in rural Greenwood. To their union were born eight children: Kenneth Wayne, Wanda Joy, Pamela May, Bradley Owen, Gordon Alan, Glen Scott, Kimberly Sue and Sharon Kay. Marguerite loved being a mother, and devoted her life to raising their children. Even with some health problems, she continued her motherly care and devotion. She died December 4, 1985, at a Lincoln hospital, at the age of 57 years, 11 months and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma. and her father, Glen. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Mary J. Date: Friday, 5 October 2012 Warren E. "Pete" Rolofson, age 89, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Warren Elbert "Pete" Rolofson was born October 24, 1922 at Princeton, Nebraska, the son of Samuel Paul and Mae Louise (Slafter) Rolofson. He was raised near Lincoln, Nebraska graduating from the Teachers College High School in Lincoln with the class of 1941. He entered the United States Army serving during WWII. He was involved with the landing on Omaha Beach, The Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. One of Pete's tasks during WWII was an opportunity to drive General Patton and President Eisenhower in his jeep. Upon his return from the war, Pete, met Dixie Barnett and they were married on July 7, 1946 in Hiawatha, Kansas. They made their home in Westboro, Missouri. Warren later farmed near Fairfax, Missouri until moving to Tarkio where he worked at a Chrysler dealership. Warren and Dixie moved to Farragut, Iowa where he farmed until moving to Red Oak, Iowa in 1957. They have lived in the same house in Red Oak since 1971. Over the years, Pete worked for the Phillips 66 station, was a Red Oak police officer, a carpenter, worked for the railroad, the City of Red Oak Park Department, and retired from the City of Red Oak Water Department in 1985. Warren was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Legion, Lorraine Post #67. He enjoyed bowling for the Rainbow Cafe team, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and in his younger years, enjoyed being a Boy Scout Leader and a Little League Coach. Preceding him in death were his parents; two infant siblings, sisters; Mildred Rosenlof, Dorothy Rolofson, and Grace Rolofson; brother, Gayle Leonad Rolofson; and son-in-law, Eugene Roof. He lived in the David City area most of his life, having lived briefly in Creighton. He was an auctioneer, Realtor and appraiser for Grubaugh Brothers. He taught vocational agriculture at Creighton and at East Butler high schools from 1981-87. He worked with Grubaugh Brothers since 1982. He had served on the Butler County Board of Supervisors and was currently on the Brainard Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the FFA Alumni Association, the Nebraska and National Auctioneer Association, was the chief appraiser for the state of Nebraska and Butler County. He was a bus driver for East Butler High School and a former field reporter for ASCS and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity. He was the husband of Irene M. (Grzenczyk) Roth. He was personnel director for 10 years at Arbogast & Bastian meat packing plant, Allentown, where he worked for 30 years until retiring 1982. Born in Stetlersville, he was a son of Tilghman and Lottie E. (Henry) Roth of Allentown. He was a member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs. Roth was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Surviving with his widow and parents are two daughters, Deborah I., wife of Ronald Easton of Williamsburg, Va., and Dana R., wife of the Rev. David A. (Gilly), who died in 1991, and the late Jean (Muthard), who died in 1993. Born in N. Whitehall Twsp., PA, he was the son of the late Harvey E. Roth and the late Sarah Jane (Greene) Roth. John was a self-employed contractor specializing in siding and metal roofing, serving the greater Lehigh Valley for over 50 years before retiring in 1990. He was a member of Egypt Community Church, Whitehall, PA, a life member of the Guthsville Rod & Gun Club, member of the Macks Pistol & Revolver League, an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed the sport of hunting. He was a collector of old Hit and Miss motors. John was also an avid Phillies fan. He served his country as a PFC in the Army during World War II. Survivors: He is survived by a son, Ronald J. Roth and wife, Kim, of Lehigh Twsp., PA; three daughters, Karen A. Roth of Whitehall, PA, Louise A. Hower of Schnecksville, PA, Darlene A. Hower of Allentown, PA; six grandchildren, Eric Heiney, Melinda Snyder, Matthew Roth, Jonathan Hower, Ryan and Lauren Verret; and two great-granddaughters, Kendall and Kaitlyn; one stepdaughter; and three stepsons; and many step-grand and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters. IF YOU KNOW THE DATE EMAIL ME. Source: Mulberry Reporter, Mulberry, Indiana Date: April 1900 Christian Rothenberger of whose illness mention was made last week, died Sunday April 1. Mr Rothenberger was born in Lehigh county Pa. April 21 1824. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in the Lutheran church upon reaching the age of manhood. In 1848 he came to this vicinity where on October 19,1852 he was married to Miss Marietta Leibenguth, who with his five sons, Josiah, Peter Frank, Louis and Perry, and his three daughters, Mrs. Wm Doty, Mrs. Jos. Smith And Mrs. J.E. Allen survives him. Mr. Rothenberger was a good citizen. He spent the better part of his life in clearing up and improving his farm that he might be able to spend the declining years of his life apart from the world's activities. Several years ago he left the farm and moved to town where he passed his later years in peaceful retirement. Mr. Rothenberger was a member of the Fair Haven Lutheran Church. On Tuesday afternoon a large number of his old Neighbors and friends assembled to attend the last rites which were conducted by his pastor Rev A.J. Reichert.

Date: Wednesday, 15 August 1923 MULBERRY RESIDENT IS FOUND DEAD ON FLOOR Body of Franklin P. Rothenberger Found by Brothers Who Were Alarmed at His Absence Dead 24 Hours After he had lain dead for at least twenty-four hours the body of Franklin P. Rothenberger age 69 of Mulberry was found in the home where he lived alone ,last night shortly after dark. The body was found by his brother who worried over the continued absence of Rothenberger about his place, forced an entrance in the house and searched for the aged man. The body was found with the head resting on the lower step of the stairway. It is believed the man had arisen from his bed Monday night and suffered a heart attack and fell striking his head on the lower step. A small bruise was on the temple and acting coroner was called and conducted an inquest. Mr. Rothenberger had lived alone since the death of his wife and was last seen about the place Monday afternoon. His health had not been strong, but he had been regarded as being ill. Following the inquest by Mr. Goodwin, the body was removed to the Rothenberger undertaking home in Mulberry and prepared for burial. Deceased is survived by two sisters and four brothers: they are Mrs. William Doty, Mrs. Joe smith, Josiah, Peter and Lewis Rothenberger.

He was born near Mulberry on March 28, 1856 the son of Christian and Marietta (Leibenguth) Rothenberger. On March 5,1882 he was united in marriage to Eloise Reiss who preceded him in death,on December 24, 1949 . He was a member of the Fair Haven Lutheran church fro more than seventy years. He is survived by one daughter Mrs. Elmer Gable of Mulberry, one sister Mrs. Alma Allen of Brookston, one brother Perry Rothenberger of Mulberry, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Rothenberger, widow of the late Christian Rothenberger died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joseph Smith, two miles north of Mulberry, Tuesday evening. She was the daughter of Peter and Hanna Leibenguth and was born Dec 3, 1831. The deceased was married to Christian Rothenberger in 1852 and to this union 10 children were born, eight of whom survive. Mrs. Rothenberger was a charter member of the Fair Haven Lutheran church and was a woman of exemplary Christian character. The following children surive; Franklin P., Josiah, Peter, Mrs. William Doty, Mrs Joseph Smith, Perry and Lewis, all living in the vicinity of Mulberry, and Mrs. E. Allen of Brookston. Alav Leibenguth of Lafayette is a nephew of the deceaced. Funeral services will be conducted from the home of Joseph smith at 1 o'clock this afternoon and from the Fair haven Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. burial will be made in the Fair Haven cemetery.

Date: Friday, 13 May 1955 Elmer C. Rothgeb, 70, died of leukemia Friday night at his home in Youngstown, following a two-year illness. Born in Beaver township, June 17, 1884, he was a son of George W. and Esther Bieber Rothgeb, and his entire life was spent in Mahoning county. For the past fifteen years he had been a foreman at Mill Creek Park. Mr. Rothgeb was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Presbyterian church and Dublin grange at Canfield. Surviving are his wife, the former Nola Minard, whom he married in 1907; a son, Randall Rothgeb of Boardman; a sister, Mrs. Edward Haney of North Lima, and two grandchildren. Another sister, Mrs. Charles Meeker, died a few weeks ago. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the McGovern Funeral Home in Youngstown.

Date: Friday, 11 September 1959 Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in Youngstown for G. Randall Rothgeb, 49, vice president and sales manager of the Youngstown Building Material and Fuel Co., who died of a heart attack Wednesday night. Born in New Buffalo, July 20, 1910, he was a son of Elmer C. and Nola Minard Rothgeb, and had been associated with the firm for 20 years. He was a past president of the Boardman Businessmen's Association, a member of the Pleasant Grove United Presbyterian church and Elks and Kiwanis Clubs. Besides his mother he leaves his wife, the former Edith Hunter, whom he married April 1, 1934; a daughter, Judith Ann and a son Robert, both at home.

Date: Tuesday, 20 May 1972 MORRILL - Graveside services will be Thursday at Morrill Cemetery for Mrs. Grace E. Royer, 80, formerly of Morrill, who died Saturday at her home in Miami, Fla. She was born Nov. 24, 1891 near Morrill and spent most of her life in the Morrill community in Brown County. She moved to Miami, Fla. 13 years ago to live with a son, Harold Royer. She was a member of the Church of the Brethren at Morrill. She was married to Samuel R. Royer Feb. 22, 1911 at Morrill. He died in 1957. Besides her son, survivors include a brother, Jay Smith, Glendale, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Belda Royer, LaVerne, Calif.; 4 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Meek Mortuary, Hiawatha, is in charge of arrangements.

Date: Saturday, 22 September 1973 The Rev. Charles L. Ruhlen, 89, died Friday evening at the Clay Center Hospital. He was born May 8, 1884, in Granada, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Ruhlen. He attended Baker University Academy and Baker University at Baldwin. Following his graduation in 1915, he entered Drew Theological Seminary in New York. On June 23, 1916, he married Edith Stafford. The early years of their marriage were spent in New Jersey and Massachusetts while Mr. Ruhlen completed his studies at the Boston Theological Seminary. They returned to Kansas in 1913, and served many parishes of the Methodist Church, including Woodbine, Hope, Manchester and Clay Center, in this area. They retired and came to Abilene in 1953, and made their home at 1505 NW Second. When Mrs. Ruhlen became ill and entered a nursing home, Mr. Ruhlen made his home at Brown Memorial Home until this summer when he moved to the Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center. Mrs. Ruhlen died Oct. 28, 1972. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ed (Ruth) Butterfield, Clay Center, Mrs. Wayne (Lylas) Gugler, Abilene, and Mrs. Glenn (Carole) Gray, Overland Park; two sons, Stafford Ruhlen, Corpus Christi, Texas, and Ralph Ruhlen, Baldwin; 21 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Edna Frazier, Spokane Washington.

Date: Monday, 30 October 1972 Mrs. Edith S. Ruhlen, 84, died Saturday at Memorial Hospital. She was born Feb. 4, 1888 in Greeley, the daughter of Joseph and Nancy Stafford. She was a graduate of the Garnett High School with the class of 1906, and a graduate of Baker University in 1913. June 23, 1916, she was married to Charles Ruhlen. She was a member of the First United Methodist, AAUW and the Twentieth Century Club. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Charles Ruhlen, Abilene; three daughters, Mrs. Ed (Ruth) Butterfield, Clay Center, Mrs. Wayne (Lylas) Gugler, Abilene and Mrs. Glenn (Carole) Gray, Overland Park; two sons, Stafford Ruhlen, Corpus Christi, Texas and Ralph Ruhlen, Baldwin; 21 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Lloyd Wollen, Bakersfield, Calif.

Date: Wednesday, 25 August 1937 J.F.Ruhlen, 88 Died Wednesday - Funeral To Be Friday One of Baldwin's Oldest Citizens Passes After Short Ilness Following Stroke Death claimed on of Baldwin's oldest citizens when J.F. Ruhlen, 88, passed away at his home on Wednesday morning. He had been ill less than a week, having suffered a stroke last week. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at ten o'clock in the Chapel of the First M.E.Church. Mr. Ruhlen was the last of a large family which came from Germany and settled near New California, Ohio in 1853, when he was but four years of age. He was born in Wurtenberg, Germany, on February 13, 1849. On April 16, 1876, he was united in marriage to Lydia Clevenger. Shortly after the marriage, they moved to Kansas and settled near Wetmore. Mrs. Ruhlen passed away on January 8, 1908. On February 24, 1910, he was united in marriage to Bertha Johnston of Iowa. The Ruhlens came to this community in 1912 that they might be of assistance in the college education of the two younger children and have lived here since that time. Mr. Ruhlen had an abundance of friends in the community. He was an interesting personality and had the ability to recall incidents of history concerning the life of the nation during his life time. He was seventeen years of age when Lincoln was assassinated and he had the privilege of seeing this great man as he lay in his coffin. He was a man of strong convictions but so honest and sincere that he won the respect even of those who disagreed with him. He had an intense interest in everything pertaining to the community life and one of his last acts was to ask his son-in-law to take him to see the soldiers when they were encamped in East Park. He was always in attendance and an ardent booster of The Santa Fe Trail picnics and he was especially interested in the display of antiques at the last picnic. He contributed an army sword to the display. J.F. Ruhlen will be missed by a host of friends in Baldwin. The immediate survivors besides Mrs. Ruhlen are: L.L. Ruhlen of Yuma, Arizona; Mrs. Nettie Cooley, Elk Grove, Calif.; Rev. C.L. Ruhlen, Moline Kansas; and Mrs. Edna Frazer of Baldwin.

Date: Tuesday, 17 August 1954 Louis Ruhlen, Ex-Engineer, Dies at Hemet Louis Lee Ruhlen, 74, retired mechanical engineer who was long an employee of the U.S.Bureau of Reclamation, died Saturday evening in the Hemet Community Hospital after a lingering illness. He was born at Columbus Grove, Ohio, on Jan. 19, 1880, and began his work with the Bureau of Reclamation at the time of the construction of the Shoshone Dam near Cody, Wyoming. He later came to California and was employed by the bureau in the construction of the All-American Canal, the Parker Dam and the Imperial Dam on the Colorado River. Mr. Ruhlen retired in 1945 and he and his wife then lived at Idyllwild until 1949, when they purchased property in this valley, on Florida Avenue east of Valle Vista, where they have since made their home. They were married in Seneca, Kan., on June 29, 1903 and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary a year ago. Besides his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Ruhlen of Hemet, he leaves a foster daughter, Mrs. Jacqueline Clothier of Florin, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Fraser of Salem, Ore., and Mrs Nettie Cooley of Norwalk, and one brother, Rev. Charles L. Ruhlen of Abilene, Kan.

Date: Friday, 24 January 1908 Lydia Elizabeth Clevenger was born Dec. 2, 1850, in Putnam county, Ohio. She was united in marriage to J.F. Ruhlen April 16, 1876. To this union eight children were born, four of which are still living-two sons and two daughters. Four have preceded her to the great beyond. She leaves to mourn her departure, a husband, and four children, besides three grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters, and numerous relatives. She came with her husband to Nemaha county, Kan., in February, 1881, where she resided till her death on January 15, 1908, at the age of 57 years one month and 13 days. Very early in life she was converted and united with the Ottawa River Christian church in Putnam county, Ohio. In 1878, with her husband, she united with the Allen Center Baptist church in Union county, Ohio. She brought her letter with her and placed it with the Granada Baptist church and later united with the First Baptist church of Wetmore, of which she continued a faithful member until the end. While she was never very demonstrative, her greatest value was recognized in her home and by those who knew her best. Having been a loving wife and fond, affectionate mother, "her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her." Her long and painful illness she bore with remarkable fortitude and was ready, and willing to go when the Master called her, and she fell asleep in Jesus to arise triumphant in the glorious beyond to a newness of live.

Mrs. Ruhlen, a native of Red Wing, Minn., is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jacqueline Clothier of Sacramento.

He was born August 21, 1917 in Sandwich, MA, the son of Charles Lester and Edith May Stafford Ruhlen. Stafford's childhood was spent in Kansas. He attended Baker University in Baldwin, KS and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in chemical engineering. He was employed for 42 years by the E.I.DuPont de Nemours Company, building and managing chemical plants in Penns Grove, NJ, Louisville, KY, Beaumont, TX and Corpus Christi, TX. Retiring initially on Padre Island, TX, he moved to Oklahoma City in 1997. His wife of 59 years, Helen Jean Edlin Ruhlen who died in 2001 and a young daughter, Barbara Ann Ruhlen who died in 1951 preceded him in death. Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Ruhlen Rice and husband Thomas, Oklahoma City; a son Richard Louis Ruhlen, Bristol, TN; granddaughters, Karen Elizabeth Rice, Waco, TX, Sarah Elizabeth Ruhlen, Bristol, TN, a grandson, Brian Thomas Rice, Oklahoma City; sisters Ruth Roberta Butterfield and husband Edwin Leroy Butterfield, Clay Center, KS, Lylas Lavon Gugler, Abilene, Kansas City, KS; a brother, Ralph Lester Ruhlen, Baldwin, KS.
