Mildred H. Newhard, 86, of East Texas, died Sunday, March 04, 2007 in Lehigh Center, Lower Macungie Township. She was the wife of Robert S. Newhard. They were married 63 years in September. She was the treasurer of Bradley Pulverizer Company, Allentown for 20 years before retiring. Mildred was a graduate of Allentown High School and Cedar Crest College majoring in bookkeeping. Born in East Texas, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Elmeda (Schuler) Dorney. She was a member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ, Trexlertown and was a member of the Macungie Senior Citizens. Mildred was fond of cats and fed the birds every morning. She had a large garden and grew lots of vegetables. Both her and Robert liked to travel and were especially fond of Hawaii and the South Pacific. Mrs. Anna A. Noel, wife of Placidus J. Noel, of 1015 Sherman avenue, died at her home Wednesday morning after an extended illness. She was a daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth Palmert Libengood and a sister of the later Mr. W. C. Libengood. She was born in Livermore, Pa. March 16, 1862, and for the last 40 years has made her home in Duqeusne. Besides her husband she is survived by two sons, Edward Henry of McKeesport, and Charles Leo, of Duquesne; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Weber, Mrs. Ida Helfrich, Mrs. Florence Bain and Mrs. Rose Bishop, all of Duquesne; one brother, Harry M. Libengood, of Santa Ana, Cal.; 14 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. She was a member of the Holy Name Roman Catholic Church and its' Altar Society. Requiem high mass is to be sung at the church Saturday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. J. J. Kelly in charge. Burial will be made in St. Vincent's Cemetery, Latrobe.

Edward H. Noel, 73, died Sunday in McKeesport Hospital. He resided at 504 Arlington Avenue, Greensburg, and was the son of the late Placidus and Ann Libengood Noel. He was a pattern maker at the Clairton Worlds of the U. S. Steel Co. Husband of the late Mrs. Sabine Killgallon Noel, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Florence Bain and Mrs. Ida Helfrich and one brother, Leo Noel, all of Duquesne. Friends were received at the Hunter-Edmunson-Striffler Funeral Home in McKeesport. High mass of requiem was offered by the Rev. Leo A. McCrory at 9 a.m. in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church. Interment was in New St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Placidus J. Noel, 90, a resident of Duquesne for 45 years, died last Friday at his home here, 1015 Sherman avenue. Born in Brandenville, Pa., January 12, 1854, a son of the late Bactus and mary Drogan Noel, he was a former resident of Latrobe, Pa. He belongs to the Holy Name Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society. Survivors include two sons, Edward of McKeesport and Leo at home; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Weber, Mrs. Ida Helfrich and Mrs. Florence Bain, of Duquesne; Mrs. Rose Bishop at home; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. His wife was the late Anna A. Noel. Friends were received at the Muloy Funeral Home here until 9 a.m. Monday when a requiem high mass was held at Holy Name Church in charge of the Rev. J. J. Kelly. Burial followed in St. Vincent's Cemetery, Latrobe.

William A. Noel, aged 42 years, son of Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Noel, of 1015 Sherman avenue who figured in a distressing automobile accident as told in last weeks Times expired at the McKeesport hospital Thursday night at 8:40. death was superinduced by internal injuries, shock, a compound fracture of the left leg and brush burns on the face according to a report from the institution. The unfortunate man was the victim of an accident which occurred Tuesday evening when the car in which he was riding plunged over the embankment at South Duquesne avenue, this city, onto the Pennsylvania railroad tracks. The reports of the accident made to police headquarters were in effect that Noel was one of three occupants in a Ford roadster driving from Duquesne to Dravosburg about 6 p.m. Tuesday. When the party had crossed over the city limit line, Richard Weitzel, aged 25 driver swerved the machine to one side in order to avoid crashing an oncoming car , the machine containing Noel, Weitzel and a man named Hoover, of 611 West Grant avenue, went over the embankment. Noel being the only one seriously injured. Noel was a World war veteran and had 18 months service overseas. He was a second lieutenant and attached to Company k, Sixth U.S. infantry, Fifty fourth division.
Funeral Monday: The deceased was born in Bradenville, Pa., January 11, 1889 and had resided in Duquesne for the past 27 years. Besides his parents he is survived by two brothers and fours sisters. Leo, at home; Edward Noel, of McKeesport; Mrs. L. G. Weber, Mrs. John Helfrich, Mrs. Patrick Bain Jr., and Mrs. Fred Bishop, all of this city. He was a member of the Holy Name R. C. church, Duquesne, and the Holy Name society of that parish. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock in the Holy Name church, in charge of the pastor, Rev. David J. Walsh. Burial was made at St. Vincent's cemetery at Latrobe. The local American Legion arranged for a military funeral.

Ernest A. Ogin, 103, formerly of Slocum, North Pennsylvania Avenue, and Andover Street, Wilkes-Barre, died Sunday in Mercy Health Care Center, Nanticoke, where he had been a guest since August 1993. He was born in Slocum, son of the late Willis and Kate Hontz Ogin and atttended Slocum schools. Before retiring as a mine foreman of Number 14 Colliery, Jenkins Township, in 1957, Mr. Ogin was employed in local collieries for more than 50 years. He was the oldest member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre, and the former Christ Lutheran Chuch, North Wilkes-Barre, where he served as a church councilman. Mr. Ogin was a member of Nanticoke Lode 541 and Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania. His wife of 72 years, the former Marjory Peters, died in 1989. Sons, Ernest A. Jr. and Elwood G., and brother George, also preceded him in death. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Donald (Doris) Burton, Wesley Village, Jenkins Township; two grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral will be held at the convenience of the family from H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 451 Main Street, with the Rev. C. Frank Terhune, pastor, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be in Dorrance Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The family requests that floweres be omitted and memorial contributions be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 190 S. She was a member of Dubbs Memorial United Church of Christ, Allentown, where she was a former consistory member and deaconess. She also received the Deaconess Emeritus Award from the church. While working on the family farm her entire life, she also held a position at the former Marshs Greenhouse doing planting and sales. She was a member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ, Indianland, and served on its Womens Guild. She was predeceased by her sister, Pauline Cliston. John Oswald, of Kline's Corner, Longswamp, while on his way at night to Topton, to summon a physician for his family, fell into a mine hole, to the depth of sixty feet, and sustained injuries which quickly proved fatal. The deceased was 48 years of age, and left ten children of his own, along with three grand-children for whom he also cared.

Frederick John Parks, 58, beloved husband, father, and son, died Friday, March 24, 2006 in Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Brigitte Margit (Longerich) Parks. They were married for 31 years in September. Fred was born and grew up in Allentown, Pa., a son of John Jack and Jean L. (Yeager) Parks of Allentown. He was a 1965 graduate of William Allen High School. He attended Moravian College before enlisting in the Army in 1966. Fred was a captain in the Army, where he served from 1966-1974 and was stationed in Korea and Germany. He received the Army Commendation Medal. He attended the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, New York, from 1976-1978. He was a chef instructor at Lehigh County Vocational Technical School, from 1978-1981, before opening his own restaurant, Parks Celebrated Oyster & Clam Bar at 10th and Liberty streets in Allentown, from 1981-1989. Fred also opened and managed Parks Oyster House on E. Third Street in Bethlehem, from 1984-1987. From 1990-1993, Fred opened Parks Seafood Restaurant at the original Parks Seafood location on Seventh Street in Allentown. He was recognized as a lifetime member of the Lehigh Valley Professional Chefs Association, American Culinary Federation. Fred also authored, designed, and self-published The Celebrated Oysterhouse Cookbook (1985), and Capn Parks Celebrated North Atlantic Seafood Cookbook (1995), as well as a series of Capn Bluenoser post-cod postcards in 1996. Fred was an avid collector of late-nineteenth and early twentieth century seafood/oyster ephemera. He was a consultant and contributor to the South Street Seaport Museum in New York City; the Baltimore (Md.) Museum of Industry; the Maritime Center Oystering Exhibition in Norwalk, Conn.; the Mystic Seaport Victorian Oyster Saloon in Mystic, Conn.; the Sansom Street Oyster House, Philadelphia, Pa.; Talmadge Bros. Inc., Norwalk, Conn., and the Chicago (Ill.) Fish House. He was a contributing writer to Seafood Leader and Simply Seafood magazines. He also enjoyed writing feature articles for Postcard Collector magazine. After his retirement from his seafood businesses due to illness, Fred opened Book Buddys Used Bookshop on Hamilton Street, Allentown, in 2002. His most recent endeavor was the involvement with the local beekeepers association, and he assisted in the coordination of the first Varietal Honey Tasting event in 2005. Fred was known as Capn Fred by his friends. Despite Freds lengthy illness, he was an inspiration to his family and friends. She was the cherished and beloved mother of four children, Fred, Bill, Jane and John. Fred preceded her in passing on from this life into the next in 2006. She was devoted Omi Jean to 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was always happy to take care of her grandchildren and enjoyed walking with them, collecting things she thought of interest to them, reading with them and attended all their School programs as much as she was able. Jean was a member of Seibert E.C. Church. Throughout her many years at Seiberts, she was involved in the Tri C Womens Sunday School class, the Nursery, card ministry and visitation. Her Faith was evident in the calm assurance she had of her knowing when God called her Home, she would be absent from the body, present with her Lord. Jean was one of six children. Survivors: Her brothers, Wilbur and his wife Elsie Yeager, Robert and his wife Nobuko Yeager; sister, Gloria and her husband Robert Nagle; sister-in-law, Margie Yeager. They have been a blessing to Jean and her family this past year in so many ways that words cant express their appreciation. Wilbert "Wimpy" Parsons, 52, died yesterday in his home, 704 S. Broadway, Wind Gap. He was a holeman at the A. Dally & Sons Slate Co., Pen Argyl. Last summer he suffered foot injuries in a fall whole repairing the roof of his garage. Charlotte Francis Basse Perkins, 96, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Broken Arrow Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 25, at Christian-Gavlik Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Reed Lessing officiating. Burial followed at Park Grove Cemetery under the direction of Christian-Gavlik Funeral Home. She was born Dec. 30, 1899, to Charles and Etta (McVey) Basse in Beloit, Kan. She attended and graduated from Mitchell County Kansas School and then attended Kansas School and then attended Haskell College before moving to Broken Arrow in 1915. She was employed by a law firm in Tulsa until moving to Pawhuska to be a court reporter in 1942. She worked as a court reporter from 1942 to 1977. She retired and moved back to Broken Arrow. Survivors include her six nieces, Violet Martin of Broken Arrow, Virginia Gaddy of Jay, Edna Peters of Wagoner, Lota Wanna Compton of Mission, Texas, Helen Duckert of Jenks and Maryetta Bradley of Jenks.

She was born Hilda Freed on January 22, 1894, near Jesup, the daughter of Edward and Bertha Freed. She came to Waterloo in 1914 and attended Ecklund Business College. She had been employed at the State Loan Company here for several years. On July 8, 1940, in Kirksville, Missouri, she was married to Justin Perkins. Survivors are her husband and two brothers, Earl Freed and Arthur Freed, 311 Allen St. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services are being planned for Wednesday. Arlene was a Registered Nurse and worked at Temple University Hospital and for over 25 years at I.M.S. as a reviewer prior to her retirement in 1991. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Ambler and played in the Pinochle Group. She loved to garden and care for her family. Mrs. Perrong was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years Henry J. "Hank" Perrong in 2008. She is the devoted mother of Patricia Perrong-MacDonald of Collegeville, Kathleen Paone of Lansdale, Margaret Engard of Perkasie, Connie Perrong of Montgomeryville and Henry J. Perrong of E. Henry J. Perrong, 82 of Ambler died Wednesday in the Central Montgomery Medical Center Lansdale. Born in Philadelphia he was the son of the late Harold and Grace (nee Harer) Perrong. He served in the Air Force during WWII from January 1944 to December 1945 as an Airplane Armorer Gunner where he served in the European-African-Middle Eastern campaign. Mr. Perrong graduated from Temple University School of pharmacy in 1950 and was employed as a Pharmacist by Rosco Brady at the Brenneman & Brady's Pharmacy on Main Street in Ambler. He went on to purchase the pharmacy in 1964 and remain the owner until 1992 when the pharmacy closed its doors. Mr. Perrong was a former member of the Ambler Kiwanis Club and a member of St. Anthony's Church in Ambler. He is survived by his beloved wife Arlene R. (nee Miller) Perrong and he was devoted to his children Patricia (Kevin) Perrong MacDonald of Collegeville, Kathleen (Mickey) Paone of Lansdale, Margaret (Michael) Engard of Perkasie, Connie Perrong of Montgomeryville and Henry J. Perrong Jr. of Norristown. He is the loving grandfather of 9 grand children, 10 great grand children and 1 great great grandchild. He is also survived by his brothers Charles F. Perrong of Warminster and Harold W. Perrong Jr. of Willow Grove. Mrs. Mantana Person, nee Hess, widow of Milton Person, died Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Oberly, 541 Getter street, Bethlehem, from general debility, aged 56 years, 11 months and 4 days. She had been ill for the past fifteen months, but was confined to her bed for three weeks. Mrs. Person was a native of Moore township, Northampton county. She was a daughter of the late Stephen and Elizabeth, nee Woodring, Hess. Prior to her residence in Bethlehem Mrs. Person lived at Nazareth, where she is well known. Her husband preceded her in death eight years ago. There survive her five children; Herbert, of Bath; Edgar, of Nazareth; Mrs. Edwin Fehnel, Moorestown; Mrs. John Oberly, Bethlehem, with whom she made her home and Mrs. Paul Hartzell, Bethlehem. Eight brothers also remain. Mrs. Person was a member of the Reformed wing of the Howertown church, where regular services will be held on Saturday afternoon, following services at 1:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Oberly 541 Getter street, Bethlehem. Rev. George A. Laubach will officiate. Interment will be made at Howertown.

Mrs. Amanda Lucrecia Peters, eighty-four, of 1007 West Front Street, Berwick, passed away yesterday afternoon in the Berwick hospital where she had been a patient for several days. She was born in Hobbie, February 26, 1886, the daughter of the late William Milton and Angeline (Gruver) Hess. She was the widow of the late Herbert Peters who preceeded her in death many years ago. For most of her life she had been a resident of Berwick. She was a member of the First United Church. She is survived by her sister, Sally Ann Hess, at home. Private funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock at the James L. Hinkley Funeral Home with Pastor Russell D. Mengel of First United Church officiating. Burial will be made in Rosemont cemetery, Berwick.

Joseph "Coplay Joe" Piescienski, 68, of 250 S. Front St., Coplay, died Tuesday in Allentown Osteopathic Hospital. He was the husband of Claire (Laubach) Piescienski. Veda Mae Pihl, 105, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014. She was born December 14, 1908, on a farm home near Assaria to James and Margaret (Kuhns) Young. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Merle Young, sister, Ireta Swenson, husband, Wallace J. Pihl, and daughter, Vera Jo Eklund. She married Wallace August 14, 1929, and they made their home on a farm near Smolan where they lived all their married lives of 73 years. Veda was a proud farmer's wife, and a loving mother and grandmother. She was a faithful member of the Salemsborg Lutheran Church where she served many years on the Altar Guild and held many offices in the Lutheran Church Women's Organization and helped organize Smoky View 4-H club. She is survived by her two sons, Donald (Betty) and LeRoy (Coleen), all of Falun; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren. Services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, September 11, 2014, at Salemsborg Lutheran Church, with visitation from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, September 10, at Christians Funeral Home, Lindsborg. Harry Parker Pritts, 89, of Keyser, died Friday, May 6, 2011 at the Dawnview Center, Fort Ashby, W.Va. Born on July 30, 1921 at Berlin, Pa., he was a son of the late Earl F. and Viola (Brant) Pritts. Mr. Pritts was a co-owner and operator of Potomac Lumber Company in New Creek, W.Va., for many years.
