Fahringer, 88, of Cabot, formerly of Washington Township, died Friday, June 30, 2006, in Butler Memorial Hospital. Born Feb. 18, 1918, in Berwick, a son of the late Harry and Nellie (Kile) Fahringer. Following graduation from PSU, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, where he served during World War II as a first lieutenant bombardier instructor. After World War II he began practice of landscape architecture, working on projects throughout the U.S. and Japan. Dave retired in 1981, as president of Fahringer, McCarty & Grey, in Monroeville. He was a star on the Berwick High School basketball team, a 1942 graduate from Penn State University with a degree in landscape architecture. Dave was an avid golfer and served many years on the greens committee at Willow Brook Country Club. He loved to travel on golfing vacations. He was a charter member of Garden City United Methodist Church, Monroeville. He taught Sunday School and served as trustee and chairman of administration. Since retirement Dave has been a member of the Apollo United Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Lee, Russel, George, Paul and Thomas Fahringer; and three sisters, Rachel and Nancy Heller and Jane Brewington. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris Burall Fahringer, of Cabot; daughter, Lynne (Robert) Schneider, of Leetsdale; four grandchildren, Carl (Michelle) Schneider, of Pittsburgh, Eileen R. Schneider, of Pittsburgh, Mark R. Schneider, of Rockville, Md., and Janette L. Schneider, of Leetsdale; and many nieces and nephews. Gathering of family and friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME. Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. David Keller officiating. Burial will be in Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum Borough. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Cabot United Methodist Church.

Date: Saturday, 17 August 1918 Mrs. Hattie I. Fair, wife of H. L. Fair, died, suddenly at her home in Bendersville at 6:30 a. m. Monday from neuralgia of the heart, aged 47 years, 3 months, and 24 days. She was a daughter of the late Albert and Lucinda Moose, of Knoxlyn Mills, and was widely known through out the county. Besides her husband she leaves the following sons and daughters: Guyon Fair, of Co. B, 112th Infantry, American Expeditionary Force; Albert Fair, 59th Company, 155th Depot Brigade, Camp Lee; Roy Fair, 11th Infantry Supply Company, American Expeditionary Force; Edgar Fair, of Harrisburg; Mrs. Ralph McCauslin, of Menallen township; Grace, Edith, Ira, Esther, Ruth, Emma, Glenn, and Dale Fair, all at home. She also leaves one grandchild. The following sisters and brothers survive: Mrs. Isaiah Cromer, of Littlestown; Mrs. Benjamin Kemper, of Westminster; William Moose, of Bermudian Churches; John Moose, of Butler township; and Mrs. C. W. Fair, of Greenmount. Funeral Thursday morning at 10:00 o'clock. Services in Bendersville Lutheran church, of which she has been a consistent member, conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. D. E. Scott. Interment in Bendersville Cemetery.

Date: Monday, 13 May 1974 Ira G. Fair, 69, died suddenly at his home at Fairfield R. 2, Saturday morning. The Adams County coroner, Dr. Robert S. Lefever, attributed death to coronary artery occlusion. The husband of Ruth Heagey Fair, he was born at Bendersville, the son of the late Harry L. and Hattie Moose Fair. He was a retired carpenter and was a member of the Fairfield Fire Company and the Adams County Volunteer Firemen's Association. Surviving in addition to his wife are 13 children; Mrs. Fair Eversole and Carroll Fair, both of Fairfield; Mrs. Lucille Black, Aspers; Dale Fair. Date: Sunday, 15 April 2012 Jane Alice (Bechtel, Kunkle) Falat, 66, of Lehigh Furnace, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her family Thursday, April 12, 2012, at St. Lukes Hospital, Allentown. She was the wife of Albert J. Falat for 43 1/2 years and the late Richard E. Kunkle. Born in Slatedale on April 8, 1946, Jane was the daughter of the late Claude A. and Mae V. (Scherer) Bechtel. Jane will be greatly missed by her husband, Albert J. Falat, children, Richard E. Kunkle Jr. and Tammy M. (Kunkle) White and family. Jane was actively involved in the community through participation in the Executive Board of Directors for the Northern Lehigh Band Boosters, Recording Secretary for Holy Trinity and U.C.C. Sunday School for 12 years, Secretary for Holy Trinity Bible School, Church Deacon of Good Shepherd U.C.C. for six years and member of Ladies Auxilary of Citizens Fire Company, Slatedale. Jane was a member of Good Shepherd U.C.C., formerly Holy Trinity, where she regularly attended Slatington Senior Citizens Group and church with her daughter. Her past times were spent reading the Bible, cooking embroidery, gardening, ceramics and celebrating life with her family. Jane will be deeply missed by her loving family, friends and all who knew her. Survivors: Husband, Albert J. Falat of Lehigh Furnace; son, Richard E. He was employed as an assistant to the president and sales at Pennsylvania Wholesale Drug Company retiring in 1979. He also worked for Bethlehem Steel Corp., 1938-45 and the Ortho Pharmaceutical Corp., 1945-52. He graduated from Liberty High School, Bethlehem, in 1935. Fetterman, 58, a Lehigh University football coach and former head football coach of Kutztown University and Liberty High School, died Sunday, July 26, in his home on Wards Lane in Center Valley. Formerly of East Greenville, he was the husband of Dr. Leslie P. (Blackeby) Fetterman. They were married for 14 years last month. He was the offensive consultant and receiver coach at Lehigh since 1994. From 1977 until 1988, he was an assistant coach and offensive coordinator and the academic adviser, financial aid coordinator and head recruiter. During that time, Lehigh was the NCAA Division II national champions in 1977 and the Lambert Cup Champions. Fetterman was a NCAA Division II national semifinalist in 1980 as the offensive coordinator for Lehigh. He was the head coach of Kutztown University, 1988-1992, and was ranked third in coaches with the most wins in Kutztown University's history. In 1991, he was named Coach of the Year for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division. He also was head football coach of Liberty High School, 1975-77 leading them to the Big 8 championship. They were rated second in the state in 1975 and were the Bethlehem All-City Champions in 1976. Fetterman also was head football coach of Selinsgrove High School, 1965-67, and an assistant football coach and heath and physical, education and science teacher at Susquehanna University, 1967-68; Boyertown High School, 1963-65, Lehigh University, 1968-72, and Liberty High School, 1975-77. Born in East Greenville, he was a son of the late Allen J. "Jack" Jr. and Janet M. (Leh) Fetterman. He was a member of Assumption Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Colesville, and a former member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, East Greenville. Fetterman attended Upper Perkiomen High School, 1954-57, where he was a baseball player and an All-State football and basketball player. He was inducted into the Upper Perk Hall of Fame in 1983. A 1963 graduate of the University of Delaware, he attended graduate school at West Chester University. He was president of the Physical Education Club and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at the University of Delaware. Date: Wednesday, 15 January 1985 William K. Fetzer, 80, of Sligo died Tuesday at Clarion Hosp. Born April 20, 1904,in Monroe Twp. (Reidsburg), he was a son of John A. and Mary Over Fetzer. He was married to the former Gladys L. Best, who died in March 1954. He was a farmer, school bus driver and part time policeman for Clarion Borough. Mr Fetzer was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clarion, Fraternal Order of police, Murphy Grange, and Reidsburg Cem. Association. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Martha Wolcott of Indiana; a son D. Ray Fetzer of Clarion, 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William K. Fetzer Jr., a brother, sister and an infant brother and sister. Date: Thursday, 25 September 2008 Gladys A. Fink, 88, of Macungie, died September 23, 2008 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital. She was the wife of Allen D. Fink. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in November 2007. Born in Macungie, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Beulah (Frey) Lichtenwalner. After graduating from Emmaus High School in 1938, she worked in the shirt factory in Emmaus as an inspector. She was a member of Solomons U.C.C., Macungie, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir. She was the Macungie News correspondent for the Morning Call for 34 years. She was a charter member of the Macungies Womans Club, a board member of both Emmaus and Macungie Womans Club for many years, and Chaplain of Macungie and Lehigh County Womans Club. She was a member of the Macungie Grange since 1937 and lady Assistant Stewart for 41 years. She was a member of the original Macungie Minstrellaires, Chaplain of the Lehigh AARP 4150, membership chairman of the 10-2 at St. Johns U.C.C., Emmaus, and Secretary-Treasurer of the Emmaus High School Class of 1938. She was a seamstress and quilter and will also be remembered for her baby blankets. Survivors: Husband; Son, Dale A. Date: Friday, 3 February 1928 Samuel M. Fink, a highly respected citizen of Hopewell township died in a hospital in Miami, Florida last evening, February 2. Mr. Fink along with his wife and W. Scott Snyder and family of Everett, was touring Florida and met with an automobile accident. This accident occurred December 23, last year and he lingered along until February 2, when he died of his injuries. Mrs. Fink, his wife, is still in the hospital. She was unable to come home to the funeral. Mr. Fink was about 66 years old and as the son of James and Susan Fink, long since deceased. He has two brothers living J. M. Fink, High Sheriff of Bedford, and Harry D. Fink, of Akron, O. Four children survive also, Mrs. Logan Gates, of Everett; Mrs. Raymond Gorsuch, of Yellow Creek; Mrs. Golda Cartright, of Akron, O., and Mrs. Elva Fink of Altoona. The funeral was held last Tuesday at the Yellow Creek Reformed Church and burial was in the cemetery adjoining. The funeral services were conducted by the pastor of the Lutheran Church, Everett, where he held his church membership the last few years. He held many local offices in Hopewell township.

Source: The Sabetha Herald, Sabetha, Kansas Date: August 1973 Delmar Arnold Fletchall, son of Lorenzo and Matilda Fletchall, was born on September 17, 1906,in Granada, Kansas. He passed from this life on August 16, 1973, while a patient in the Sabetha Hospital at the age of 66 years, 10 months, and 29 days. He grew up near the Woodlawn community where he attended the Maple Ridge school. He spent his lifetime in Nemaha and Brown counties where he was successfully engaged in his own farming and stockman operations. On July 31, 1926 he was united in marriage to Adaline Buchholz in Hiawatha. Two children were born to this union: a son, Gary, and a daughter, Ila Mae. In 1962 with his health failing, Delmer had to retire from is farming. He and his wife purchased a home in the Fairview community where he resided until the time of his passing. Delmer was received into membership of the Sabetha Wesleyan Church on April 5, 1959. He loved both the church and his Lord. He served two terms on the church's Board of Administration. Poor health had prohibited his attending in recent months, but had not removed his desire to be in the church services. Delmer and is wife, Adaline, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in 1971. Delmer was a hard worker, good provider for his wife and family, and loved to be at home. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Larry Dale Campbell, in October of 1951. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and companion of the home, Adaline; his son, Gary L. Fletchall of Chillicothe, Mo.; his daughter, Mrs. Emery Campbell of Fairview; one brother, Ralph Fletchall of Sabetha; two sisters, Mrs. Fern Wright of Colorado Springs, Col..; Mrs. Alta Aagard of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and a host of friends. Memorial services were held August 18, 1973, at the Popkess Mortuary with the Rev. Garry Plummer officiating. The organ music was played by Stephen Chance, Dick McKim sang "How Great Thou Art" and "I Won't Have to Cross Jordan Alone." The casket bearers were Chris Aeschliman, Tommy Brammer, Owen Kimmel, Vernon Keim, Leonard Kidwell and Charles Harold. The interment was made at the Sabetha Cemetery.

Date: Thursday, 6 December 2001 Adeline Fletchall, 92, Sabetha, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at a Sabetha hospital. Mrs. Fletchall and her husband farmed south of Sabetha from 1942 to 1965. She was born July 19, 1909, in Haynes, N.D., the daughter of Jacob Buchholz and Sadie Smith Buchholz. Se was raised in Morrill and graduated from Morrill High School. She moved to Fairview in 1965 and then to Sabetha in 1980. Mrs. Fletchall attended the Wesleyan Church in Sabetha. She married Delmar Arnold Fletchall in 1926. He died Aug. 16, 1973. Mrs. Fletchall also was preceded in death by a grandchild. Survivors include a daughter, Ila Mae Campbell, Fairview; a son, Gary Lee Fletchall, Chillicothe, Mo.; a brother, Henry Buchholz, Sabetha; a sister, Dolly Halliday, Wichita; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Burial will be in Sabetha Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Flores, who died in 1962. Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Franklin K. and Margaret (Schick) Dick. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Upper Darby. Flores retired in 1971 after 29 years as a teacher at various elelmentary schools in the Upper Darby School District. She graduated in 1919 from Reading High School and received a bachelor or arts degree in 1923 from Brown University. Flores earned a master of arts degree in 1950 at the University of Pennsylvania. She is survived by a son, Richard W., of Plainwell, Mich., and a daughter, Margaret F. Fallon, Norwalk, Conn. Also five grandchildren and five great-grandsons. The Spencer T. Date: Friday, 14 January 2011 Richard Winthrop Flores, Sr., 83, of Plainwell, MI, formerly of Holland Township, NJ, died peacefully on December 26, 2010, at the Borgess Medical Center, Kalamazoo, MI, with his beloved wife of nearly 61 years by his side. Born: November 1, 1927, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Carl and Miriam Dick Flores. Personal: Mr. Flores graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1945 and Lehigh University in 1950 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He held many executive positions at Riegel Paper Corporation for 27 years. He then was the mill manager at Plainwell Paper Company in Plainwell, MI, for several years, and retired from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, where he was the director of the Paper Technology Foundation. He and his wife enjoyed traveling. Dick was an avid sports fan, who also enjoyed stamp and coin collecting. Memberships: He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He was an Eagle Scout and was the Scoutmaster of Troop 51 in Milford for many years. He received the Silver Beaver Award for his distinguished service to the Boy Scouts of America. He served in the US Navy Air Corps during World War II. Dick was a member of many organizations, where he held numerous offices. Some of them included the Milford Lions Club, PIMA, and TAPPI. He was a volunteer at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo and also did fund-raising for WMU's athletic department. He was a former member of the Holland Presbyterian Church, Holland Township, and attended the Gull Lake Area Community Church, Richland, MI. He held positions in both churches. Survivors: His loving family including his wife, the former Mary Jane Williams; two daughters and their husbands, Joanne Iskra-King and her husband, Francis, Spring Hill, FL; Nancy Hill-Moser and her husband, Robert, Easton; one son, Richard Jr., FL; five grandsons, Kurt, Douglas, and Kevin Iskra, and Travis and Trever Hill; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Fallon, RI; five nieces and two nephews; and his two 'adopted' sons and their families, Harry Bird, Portage, MI, and Walter Bird, Darien, IL. (Hess), eldest daughter of Joseph and Louisa Hess, was born in Marion County, W. Va., October 19, 1866, and died July 28, 1896. She was converted in a meeting held by the Rev. J. P. McCormack in 188_. From her first faith she never wavered, but continued to grow in grace. June 5, 1886, she gave her hand and heart in marriage to U. Grant Floyd. She died as she lived triumphantly shouting praises to her Redeemer. But an hour before she passed away she called her friends to her bedside, and told them she was going home. Glenn Floyd of this city, died at his home in Mannington Sunday morning at 5:30 o'clock following a brief illness caused by a complication of diseases. At the time of his death Mr. Floyd was the teacher of the Seven Pines school, and for fifty-one years he had taught in various schools in Marion county; probably in more different schools than any one person. Mr. Floyd was a son of Henry Washington and Millie Hess Floyd, and was the last of a family of seven children. He was born near Mannington May 12, 1864, and spent his entire lifetime in that vicinity where he was a successful farmer as well as teacher. Twice married, Mr. Floyd's first wife was Miss Ella E. Hess, of Bingamon, whose death occurred nearly forty years ago. Two of the three children by this marriage are living. They are: R. Glenn Floyd, and Arlie Floyd, of Bingamon. His second wife was the former Miss Minerva Lowe, of near Smithfield. She survives together with the following three children: Paul Floyd, of Mannington; Herbert Floyd, of Winchester, VA; and Mrs. Louise Atha, of Bingamon. Mr. Floyd was greatly beloved as a Christian leader, and was a faithful member of the Whetstone Methodist Episcopal church. He was licensed as a minister by the Rev. F. M. Malcolm, former pastor at Mannington. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Whetstone church with the Rev. E. V. Swan assisted by the Rev. F. M. Malcom officiating. Burial was made in the family plot near the home.

FRANTZ, 32, of Clarion, Pa., formerly of Lisbon died Thursday morning in Brookville, Pa., Hospital, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. A son of Harry W. and Clara Ressler Frantz, he was born March 25, 1921, in Hanover Township and lived in the Lisbon district until four months ago, when he and his family moved to Clarion. Mr. Frantz, an Army veteran of World War II, was a member of the Lisbon United Presbyterian Church. Before moving to Clarion, he had been employed as parts manager at the O. S. Hill & Co., Lisbon, and Diesel Service Co., Lisbon and was employed as a salesman for a farm implement concern. Besides his parents, he leaves his wife, the former, Alice Mae Desellem; two daughters, Christine Sue and Janice Louise, both at home; four brothers, Leslie of West Point and Clarence, Joseph and Walter, all of Lisbon; seven sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Roberts, Mrs. Marjorie Dillon, Mrs. Hazel Allison, Miss Mary Frantz and Miss Mildred Frantz, all of Lisbon, Mrs. Ila Weaver of East Palestine and Miss Helen Frantz of Cleveland, and his maternal grandfather, J. Date: Tuesday, 27 April 2010 Dr. Thomas W. Free, 64, of Staunton, VA, formerly of Kintnersville, PA, died Thursday afternoon, April 22, 2010 in Caldwell County, NC. He is the husband of Joan L. (Custer) Free. Born in Philadelphia, PA on May 14, 1945 to the late Claire (Gaugler) and William Henry Free. Tom graduated from Palisades High School in 1964; Bloomsburg University in 1968 with a BS; Lehigh University in 1974 with a MS where he received Doctorate of Education. Tom had also studied in India in the 1970s. He started his teaching career at the Pennsbury School District in 1968-1969; then at Palisades in 1969 as a Social Studies Teacher at the Jr./Sr. High School; in 1974, he was Assistant Principal of the Jr./ Sr. High School; Acting Principal and Acting Superintendent from 81-82; Appointed October 21, 1981 as Superintendent of Palisades Schools until retiring in June 30, 1998. He coached Wrestling, Soccer and Baseball while working at Palisades. The Street between Durham Nockamixon School and the Palisades High school was named Thomas Free Drive in recognition of the years of service he gave the Palisades School District. While living in Pennsylvania Tom was also an active member of the Springfield Township Lions club and the Quakertown Hospital Board. After retirement he and his wife moved to Virginia where he was employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia in Social Services for several years until 2009. He continued his passion for education by working as a volunteer for an elementary school environmental education program. Tom was a past president and active member of the Pleasant View Spring Hill Ruritan Club. Tom was an avid fisherman, loved growing vegetables, and was passionate about reading and music. Tom worked hard to make a positive impact on the world and he believed strongly in the value of a good education. His entire professional career was dedicated to improving the quality of education available to students in the Palisades School District. Tom had a competitive nature and loved to ponder tough questions. Many of his friends and family were put at a distinct disadvantage when debating with him, playing hearts with him, or fishing with him. His love for his wife and daughters was strong and grew even stronger with the arrival of three grandsons between 2007 and 2009. His open-minded approach to life, his intellectual curiosity, and his passion for friends and family will be sorely missed. Date: Thursday, 28 May 1931 Mrs. Bertha Freed dies. While Mrs. Bertha Freed, wife of E. H. Freed had been ailing for a long time and word was passed around she would never be any better, when she passed away at her home, near here, Monday forenoon around 11 o'clock. It still came as a great shock. Born as Bertha Zitlow, and living near here before her marriage most of her entire life wa spent near here. She would have been 57 years of age in July. She leaves her husband, two sons, Earl and Arthur, both at home, one daughter, Miss Hilda, of Waterloo, besides three sisters, other relatives and a host of friends. To know her was to love her. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church here Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. C. B. Driver, of Jesup officiating. Burial was in the family lot in the Littleton Cemetery. Source: Bulletin Journal, Littleton, Iowa Date: Thursday, 4 June 1931 Mrs. Edward H. Freed Dies. Bertha, daughter of Robert and Louise Zittlau, was born July 8, 1873, in Germany. With her parents she came to this country when she was seven years old. Feb. 9, 1893k, she was united in marriage to Edward H. Freed. To this union three children were born, one daughter Hilda, and two sons Earl and Arthur. Mrs. Freed was brought up in the Lutheran faith and was confirmed in the church. In 1910 she united with the Presbyterian church of Littleton, of which she remained a faithful member until she passed from the church militant to the church triumphant on Monday, May 25, 1931. For about three years Mrs. Freed has suffered physically and since the fall of 1930 has practically been bedridden and has suffered intense pain, but she has endured as seeing Him who is invisible. With remarkable faith in the wisdom and goodness of God she has patiently borne her pain and anxiously looked forward to meeting her dear Lord and Savior beyond the Silent River. Mrs. Freed has been a diligent and faithful student of the Bible, and always enjoyed talking of those things that are eternal. A faithful follower of the Lord she has passed into the Father's home. "The city not made with hands eternal in the heavens." She leaves to mourn their loss a beloved husband, daughter and two sons, three sisters, Mrs. Henry Giffrow, of Clinton; Mrs. O. Gl Meyer, of Des Moines; and Mrs. Earl Brockman, of Marion. One sister, Mrs. Hilda Voelker, preceded her in death four years ago. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Littleton, Rev. C. B. Driver of the presbyterian church, of Jesup, officiating. He was assisted by Leonard Odiorne, student pastor of the Littleton church, offered prayer and sang "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Safe In the Arms of Jesus." Miss Lucie Durham played the accompaniments. Weeks before her death Mrs. Fred made all arrangements for her funeral. The services were carried out according to her requests. There was a large attendance. The floral gifts were many and most beautiful. Interment was made in the Littleton Cemetery.

He was born March 16, 1869, in Perry Township, Buchanan County, the son of Samuel and Mary Freed. He married Bertha Zittlau on February 9, 1893, at Jesup. She preceded him in death in 1931. He farmed near Jesup before retiring in 1930. He leaves a daughter, two sons, Earl, Jesup, and Arthur, Corpus Christi, Texas, four grandchildren; two brothers, Jake, Jesup, and Thomas, Medford, Oregon.

He was born January 14, 1901, Jesup, the son of Edward H. and Bertha Zittlau Freed. He was united in marriage to Alice Rachel Brown, December 3, 1923, in Independence. He was a retired farmer having lived all of his life farming northeast of Jesup. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Jesup, had served on various church boards, taught Sunday School. Had been on the Farmers Mutual Telephone Board, the Jesup School Board, and the Farmers Co-op Elevator board and served as president of the various boards. He is survived by his wife Alice, two sons, and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Rosemary Freed, and Earl Jr. and Pat Freed all of Jesup. 120 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. He is also survived by one brother,Arthur Freed, of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son William at birth, and one sister, Hilda Perkins. Services were held April 14 at 1:30 pm at First Baptist Church with Pastor Howard Mace officiating. Music was by Mrs. Howard Mace and Mrs. George Steinbron. Casket bearers were Stan Bohling, Everette Wittmayer, Maurice Hoppe, Dean Lauritzen, John Heinrich, and Burdette Kimball. Honorary casket bearers included Vernon Trumbauer, Earl Stewart, Ed Wittmayer, Roland Brown, Ralph Smedley and Vernon Miller. Burial was in the Littleton Cemetery with White Funeral Home of Jesup in charge of arrangements.

Date: Wednesday, 5 December 2007, Page B8 Erma A. Frey, 93, a life long resident, teacher, and artist, of Allentown. Erma taught visually handicapped students in the Allentown Public School District at Jefferson Elementary School for 22 years. She retired in 1978. In 1986, Erma was awarded the Allentown Human Relations Commissions Unity Award for her active work in teaching the blind and visually impaired children how to overcome their handicaps while transcending the limitations of her own visual disability. Erma had macular degeneration and had been legally blind herself for the past 20 years. Erma received her B .S. degree from Kutztown State College, attended Muhlenberg College and received her certificaton for teaching the visually handicapped at Hunter College in New York City. Her art education started as a teenager with Walter Emerson Baum. Over the years, and after retirement, she attended the Baum Art School, studying with Dr. Baum, Lee Everett and other nationally known artists. Her watercolors and pastels won many awards, both on the state and local levels. Her paintings hang in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown Art Museum, Lehigh Valley Hospital and the Baum School. Erma Freys name is honored in the Library of Congress for her teaching Jehovah Witness children during the years of controversy regarding prayer and Pledge of Allegiance wording. Survivors: Her son, Richard B . Frey of Atlanta, Ga.; her daughter, Judith A. Frey ; son-in-law Gary Stern of New york City; her grandchildren, Richard Frey of New York City, Jeannette Frey and her husband Greg DeLaurier and son Jesse of Melrose, Mass. Ermas husband James Bogart Frey died in 2002. Erma spent her last 10 years at Luther Crest Retirement Community. Date: Tuesday, 13 October 2009 Charles Alfred Shafer Fries, age 89, a resident of Montgomery, Ala., died at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009. He was born in Pennsylvania on Aug. 4, 1920, to Emma and Charles S.A. Fries. He was married to Minerva Leibenguth on Dec. 13, 1941, in Cherryville, Pa., at the Rev. Copenhaver's house. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage. He is survived by three of their four children: Pamela Fries Paine, Charles Curtis Fries and Kay Fries Woollen. Survivors also include his eight grandchildren, Christine Paine Ragland, James Robert Paine, Pamela Marie Fries, Garrison Robert Fries, Timothy Charles Fries, Amanda Jane Fries, Laura Marie Woollen and Eric Hamilton Woollen; and great-grandchildren, Catherine Elizabeth Ragland, William McKinsey Ragland III, Robert Paine Ragland, James Robert Paine III, Charlotte Anne Paine, John Everett Paine and Jackson Lewis Fries. His son, Gary Lewis Fries, died in 1997. Charles had a long career with the U. S. Air Force and as an entrepreneur in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. His Air Force career included work at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas, Moody Air Force Base in Georgia, Eglin Air Force Base in Florida and Chateau Roux Air Force Base in France. He received nine medals: Air Force Outstanding Unit, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service, Air Force Longevity, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and an appreciation medal from The Republic of Korea. After his retirement from the Air Force he owned and operated a Shell Oil Co. franchise in Fort Walton Beach and also worked as financial advisor for the investment firm of Waddell and Reed. During his entrepreneurial career he was an active member of the Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Niceville, Fla. The family invites friends to join them for funeral services which will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at the chapel at Heritage Gardens at 2201 N. Partin Drive in Niceville. They would have observed their 48th wedding anniversary in April. He was a leadoff electrician for Western Electric, Allentown, for more than 28 years before retiring in 1980. Born in Danielsville, he was a son of the late Thomas and Laura (Williams) Fritz. He was a member and past trustee of the United Presbyterian Church, Slatington, where he was president of the United Presbyterian Men's Association for many years. An Army corporal, he served in Company I, 104th Infantry, during World War II. He was a past commander of the Allan O'Delke Legion Post 16, Slatington, and a founding member of the Delke Knights Drum and Bugle Corps. He was also deputy commander and chaplain for American Legion District 14 for many years and assistant sergeant-at-arms for the Pennsylvania State Legion. Survivors: Wife; son, Leon J. Date: Sunday, 7 February 2010 Earl E. Fritzinger, 89, of Kempton, entered eternal life on February 5, 2010 surrounded by loving family, while in the care of Fellowship Manor, Whitehall, PA. He was the husband of Marie (Baush) Fritzinger. Born at home, in Weisenberg Township, on July 22, 1920, he was the son of the late George and Annie (Walbert) Fritzinger. He graduated highest in his class from the Hynemansville One Room School House. As a youth, Earl was an active member of the Ziegels Church. He participated in the church orchestra playing the violin, and he sang on the church choir. He was also a member of the young peoples club that put on plays in the Pennsylvania Dutch dialect at various local churches. As a member of the Lehigh County 4-H Sheep Club, Earl was awarded the honor of Reserve Grand Champion Lamb at the PA Farm Show in Harrisburg. In the summer of 1944, Earl met and fell in love with Marie Baush. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on December 25, 2009. Earl worked one year for Edgar Wehr farming and training horses and then farmed for Lehigh Portland Cement for 4 years. He was a whizzer operator for the former Trojan Powder Company for 34 years. Earl enjoyed gardening. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the many song birds that visited his outdoor feeder. His hobby was making wooden toys for family and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, a wonderful father, the best grandfather, and terrific great grandfather. He will be missed by all who loved him. He was a member of St. Peters Union Church, in Lynnville, for the past 65 years. She passed away in the Spencer hospital Monday evening after a double mastoid operation. She was one of the best known and most admired young folks in the West Okoboji Consolidated community because of her lively spirit and community activity. She was especially active in the 4-H club work and had been chosen to attend the 4-H club in Ames next month. Her interest in school activities was equally as great as her interest in the 4-H work. She was a leader in school activities and took active parts in both the school band and glee club. Dorothy is survived by her parents, two brothers, and a sister.

Date: Wednesday, 1 June 2005 George Frutchey, 95, of Naples, Fla., died on Saturday, April 23. The cause was kidney cancer. Mr. Frutchey was born in Easton, Pa. He lived in Montclair before moving to Naples in 1970. He was owner and operator of Arthur Frutchey and Sons Oil Company for 50 years. Mr. Frutchey was an avid golfer, and was a member of the Imperial Golf Club in Naples. In Montclair, he had been a member of the Montclair Golf Club. He enjoyed bowling at the Commonwealth Club, boating and fishing. After learning to ski at 50, he skied into his 80s. He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister. There were no services. Burial was private.

Date: Friday, 12 February 1915 Mrs. H. Louise Coe Frutchey died at her home on Thursday evening, Feb. 4th, after a painful illness of a few weeks, which a weak heart and the advanced age of 82 years could not withstand, and despite all That loving hearts and hands could do she passed away. She was the youngest of a family of eleven children. Her parents, John C. and Anna D. Coe, came to Livonia in 1815, coming overland with their three children with a horse and cutter, all the way from Connecticut, and first located on the farm now known as the Will Wood farm. A few years later they bought the old home farm, now known as "The Maples," where Mrs. Frutchey was born, and lived all her life. How much she loved the old home! and many times remarked, when returning from a tour of sight-seeing and pleasure, "We have seen many beautiful places, but oh, there is no place so dear and restful as this." In 1876 she was married to Mr. P. [Peter] G. Frutchey, and their voyage of life together has been a most happy one for nearly two score years; and in her last illness the devoted husband hoped against hope that she might be spared to be the light of the home yet a little longer, and Mr. Frutchey has the heartfelt sympathy of all who know of his true devotion. She leaves an adopted daughter, Miss Sarah M. Draper, and ties of blood could not weave a stronger bond of affection than existed between these two, so closely brought together, and by whom she has been so tenderly cared for in her declining years. In social circles, her genial nature and rare intellectual qualities won a host of friends, whose hearts are saddened that they will hear her cherry voice no more. To all worthy appeals for charity her purse was never closed. In business matters she had large experience, and there was perhaps not a better informed woman in the county, and through this medium she had an extended acquaintance, and her counsel was often sought. She was a fond lover of flowers and everything rare in nature, as the surroundings of her home have long verified. She was a devout believer and supporter of the Universalist faith. The Rev. Clara Morgan of Perry was summoned to officiate at the funeral on Monday, at 1:30 o'clock, and who spoke words of comfort to those who knew and loved her. The large assemblage of friends and the beautiful floral tributes were as a silent witness of the high esteem in which she was held throughout the town. She was the last surviving member of this large and influential family. She was laid to rest in Oak Ridge cemetery, where sleep kindred and friends, and only a little way from the chapel that she so generously gave for the comfort and convenience of this community, and it will long remain a monument to her memory.

Date: Sunday, 30 August 2009 James T. Frutchey passed away unexpectedly on August 21, 2009 as a result of complications from lung surgery. He was 86. As the Patriarch of the family he was constantly and totally devoted to providing for its care and welfare, be it as husband, father, grandfather, or great grandfather. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA., he attained the rank of Eagle Scout before graduating from Langhorne Middletown High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was accepted for pilot training shortly thereafter. Upon receiving his commission and wings he was assigned to Bomber Command and was trained as a pilot of a B-17, whereupon he was assigned to the 305th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force in Chelveston, England. He completed 35 missions over Germany, accumulated over 300 combat flying hours, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters, three Battle Stars, and the Presidential Unit Citation. Upon returning home he served as an Instructor Pilot until joining the Air Force Reserves, where he served for 22 years and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Mr. Frutchey owned and operated a manufacturing company, Ogontz Industries, for forty years, selling the company and retiring in 1986. He was an avid golfer and a member of Manufacturers' Golf and Country Club in Oreland, PA for 61 years and of La Rinconada Country Club in Los Gatos, CA since moving from Philadelphia to Saratoga, CA in 1988. He was predeceased by his son, Bob, and is survived by his wife Barbara, his sons Jim, Jr. (wife Judi) and Carey Weatherholt (wife Kellie), his daughter Ann Weismann (husband Burke), his grandchildren Jennifer (husband Jens), Jim III (wife Sarah), Rob, Jessica, Madeline, Austin, and Jalene, and his great grandchildren Victoria and Grace. He is also survived by his brother Ed (wife Mary) of Medford, OR. A service celebrating his life will be held at the Saratoga Federated Church on Wednesday, September 2nd at 11:00 AM. Mr. Frutchey was born in Bangor, RD 2, the son of the late Alan P. and Armanda Haring Frutchey. He was a retired farmer since 1952. His wife is the former Bertha Hartzell. The couple had celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in November of 1965. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Stone Church, where hehad served as Deacon and Elder. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter Mrs. William Predmore of Mt. Bethel; a son, Albert A. Frutchey, also of Mt. Bethel. Three sisters, Mrs. Ella Hartzell of Portland; Mrs. Laura Reagle, and Mrs. Minnie Miller, both of Mt. Bethel; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be hled Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Trinity United Church of Christ, Stone Church, with the Rev. Richard J. Keen officiating. He had lived in Monroe County for the past year and before that lived in Hackettstown. A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of American Legion Post 164 and the Elks Club, both in Hackettstown. Surviving are his wife, a daughter,and a sister. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home in East Stroudsburg. Cremation will take place at H.G. Smith Crematory in Stroudsburg.

Date: Thursday, 10 May 2012 Robert Carl Frutchey, 76, passed to the heavenly music room on Friday, April 27, 2012 with his loving and caring family at his bedside. Born October 2, 1935, Bob graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor and a Master degree in Music Education. He was a Martha Jennings Scholar. He retired from the Barberton School District as a music educator after 32 years of service. He was a founding member of the Akron Symphony Orchestra, where he played principal French Horn for 42 years. (ASK US WHY HE LEARNED THE FRENCH HORN). He served as the director of music at various churches, currently of the Barberton First Presbyterian Church. He played the French Horn and was also the assistant director for the Cuyahoga Falls Community Band, Bethany Church Band and as Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scouts, Troop 100; where he created their Drum and Bugle Corps. Bob was an active member and past President of the Magic City Kiwanis Club, with one of his favorite projects being the Lake Anna gazebo, and was also a Past Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis. He was an Adjudicator for the Ohio Music Educators Association and a member of the (SRTA) Summit County Retired Teachers Associations. Bob volunteered for the annual Cancer Survivor Walk, was a Grand Pal for a 6th grader, helped children with their reading at Memorial School and participated in various organizations over the years. Though Bob enjoyed music very much, he also enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was known for always seeing the best in people and pulling that 'best" out. Preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alice Frutchey; brother, William; sisters, Marian Griebling and Margaret Hunt; he is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Suzanne; son, Kenneth (Lynne) of Fullerton, Calif.; daughter, Kristine (Steve) Becker, Spokane, Wash.; son, Robert (Heidi) of Longmont, Colo.; and grandchildren, Lindsay, Katherine, Karsten, Alayna, Jensen, Robby, Ben, Sam, and Maddy; sisters, Emma Gagnon, Anne Waltz, Barbara Williams; and brother, David.

Date: Friday, 14 July 1899, Page 3, Colume 2 Vernon the 11 year old son of A. P. Frutchey, of Upper Mt. Bethel, was killed on Friday last while driving a reaper to his father's harvest field. He, with a little sister, still younger, were occupying the seat of the reaper, when, from some unknown cause, the horses ran away. The little fellow was picked up dead, with a fractured skull, but the girl still held to the seat when the horses were caught. It is not known whether he was kicked by the horses or whether the wheels of the reaper passed over his head.

Source: Harveyville Monitor, Harveyville, Kansas Date: April 1930 Emily Justine Garinger, daughter of Jon and Charlotte Garinger, was born in Ohio May 1, 1855 and passed away at her Harveyville home, April 13, 1930, lacking but a few days of being 75 years of age. She was one of fourteen children of whom two are living, Joseph of this place and Albert H. of Salina, Kansas. She came to Kansas with her parents in 1861, making the long journey by wagon as was the custom of that time. Her parents selected as their home the one half section now comprising the Garinger farm and the eighty upon which Garingers Addition, the high-school tract and other land is located. Their first residence stood on the crest of the hill near where Mrs. Cook now lives. Later, the improvements were moved to their present site. She remained with her parents during their lifetime and in connection with her brother John, purchased the present Garinger farm upon which she has made her home for sixty-nine years. So long as her strength allowed, "Aunt Em" and the old home place remained a family refuge. Probably no person in the community has given more of their time, strength and substance for the necessities, comforts and care of others. Honesty and loyalty to relatives and friends were outstannding characteristics of ths much respected neighbor. "Dear hands Crossed in unwanted stillness on your breast. I see through tears, your glory newly won, With Golden Circlet of life's work well done." *Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 10 AM Tuesday April 15, 1930. The pastor, Rev. F. A. Whittlesey, officiated. His text was John 14:2. "In my Fathers House are Many Mansions". A quartette sang, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus". "The Old Rugged Cross" and " Shall We Gather at the River".

He also lived in Wilkes-Barre for 20 years. In the 1930s he was employed by Wood Lawn Dairies, Wilkes-Barre, and later at AC&F Industries in Berwick, until the plant closed. Mr. Gearhart retired as a plasterer and cement finisher with local 150, Wilkes-Barre. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Nescopeck, a former member of the Muhlenburg U.M. Church and was formerly on the board of Trustees of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre. His wife, the former Lucretia M. Hess, died July 31, 1982. Two sons, Leland "Luke" and Carl Gearhart, both died in 1945. Four sisters also preceded him in death: Guida Brennan, on Dec. 3, 1992; and Iva Lesher of Jan. 1, 1992; Catherine Scott and Anna Wise. Elwood was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in their maintenance division in Lehigh County as a foreman for 27 years. He later owned and operated an automotive repair business as well as a small engine repair business for various years. He was a longtime member of Good Shepherd U.C.C., Slatington. Date: Tuesday, 18 January 2011 Willard H. Gernert, 82, Kutztown, died Jan. 17, 2011, in Kutztown Manor, where he had been a resident since April 2010. Born Oct. 20, 1928, in New Tripoli, he was a son of the late Paul Gernert and Verna (Fenstermacher) Walker. He was the husband of Pauline E. (Arndt) Gernert, whom he married Dec. 19, 1953. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a truck driver for 40 years for the former Trojan Powder Co., Allentown, and later worked as an auto detailer at Krause Toyota, Schnecksville, until his retirement in 1990. Surviving are his wife; sons, Jeffrey L., husband of Kay L. (Himmelberger) Gernert, Lenhartsville, and Bruce W., husband of Jeena D. (Fulton) Gernert, Kutztown; daughter, Christine L. (Gernert), wife of Robert P. Date: Tuesday, 18 September 2007 Barbara I. (Frutchey) Gery Walck, 76, widow of Wilmer A. Gery and Donald C. Walck, of Third Street, East Greenville, Pa., died September 17, 2007 in her home after an illness. Born in Bangor, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Elizabeth (Tonkin) Frutchey. She was a 1949 graduate of East Greenville High School. She became a member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, East Greenville, in 1948 and became an integral part of the church music program, playing the piano for Sunday school for 30 years and directing two adult bell choirs for 10 years. She was confirmed at St. Jons Evangelical & Reformed Church, Bangor, now a United Church of Christ. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and also taught piano lessons in her home for 17 years and was a member of the former Community Orchestra. Survivors: Daughters, Janis, wife of Timothy Croissette, of Barto, Gail, wife of David Gerhard, of Palm, Lynn Gery of New Iberia, La. and Lauren, wife of Dean Scholl, of Boyertown; brother, Franklin Frutchey and his wife, Janet, of Red Hill; sister, Carol Gebert of Mechanicsburg; eight grandchildren, Steven Gerhard, Joelle Cormier, Christy Renninger, Shaun Croissette, Michael A. Born in Allentown, he was a son of Barbara I. (Frutchey) Gery Walck of East Greenville and the late Wilmer A. Gery and stepson of the late Donald Walck. He worked in the quality control department of Knoll International, East Greenville, then worked for various other companies while living in Louisiana. He was a 1978 graduate of Upper Perkiomen High School and attended Penn State, majoring in civil engineering. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at Penn State and was a member of Mensa. He was a member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Paul S. Getz. Born November 12, 1923 in Scranton, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Blanche Swartz. Survivors: Surviving are two daughters, Dr. Paulette Bogan of Panton, Vt. and Debora Getz of Whitehall, Pa.; a brother, Theodore Swartz; a sister, Alice Linski; three grandchildren Molly, Amy and Laura Bogan.

Date: Friday, 6 January 2012 Ann Elizabeth Robinson Getz entered the church triumphant on Wednesday, January 4, 2012. The oldest daughter of David Wardlaw and Edna Lee Babb Robinson, she was born November 3, 1924, and raised in Troy, SC. After graduating from Erskine College in Due West, SC, with a BA in Home Economics, she married Martin H. Getz of Bethlehem on July 11, 1945. The couple was married for almost 61 years. They resided in various places in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as Martin attended graduate school and seminary. Ann cherished her family of five children and supported Martin as he developed the Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. In addition to family, Anns passions included teaching, gardening and flowers. After teaching ninth grade Home Economics at East Hills Jr. High in Bethlehem for ten years, she studied Horticulture and Flower Arranging at Temple University in Philadelphia, as well as Ikebana Arranging at the Ohao School in New York City. She also taught dried flower design classes at Northampton Community Collegefor six years, and provided many interesting lectures to garden clubs, social groups and church groups. She began a dried floral business, Forever Flowers, at 4227 Hecktown Road in Bethlehem. As the business grew, Ann began a partnership with her daughter Alethea, to offer fresh floral services at their storybook cottage Nazareth Pike location. Ann loved her time working in her large gardens at home to grow the many unusual herbs and flowers that graced her arrangements. Later in life, Ann and Martin enjoyed traveling, visiting Holland, France, England, Italy, Germany, Austria, Turkey and Russia. Survivors: Ann is survived by five children, eleven grandchildren, six great-granddaughters, three sisters, and a brother. Her children are Suzanne (Getz) and James Bates, Ferndale, MI; David and Sue(Weisel) Getz, Wind Gap, PA; Christopher and Bonnie (Niechwiadowicz) Getz, Center Valley, PA; Stephen and Karen (Stivison) Getz, Bridport, VT; and Alethea (Getz) and Jeff Bahnck, Bridport, VT. Grandchildren and great grandchildren include Elise (Bates) and Rick Russell, parents of Anna Robinson, Elizabeth and Sophie; Evan Bates; Hannalori (Bates) and Matthew Frick; Tracy (Getz) and Steve Smith, parents of Julia, Claire and Kate; Jennifer (Getz) and Ian Shieh; Jeremy Getz; John Getz; Margaret (Getz) and Preston Klingseis; Claire Getz; Rachel Getz; and Brian Hartigan. Date: Thursday, 14 August 2008 GIBBONS - John Loyd, went to be with his wife and his Lord on August 12th, 2008, at home while surrounded by the home. and memories he had built over 88 years. He was a husband, father, and grandfather, veteran of World War II, manufacturing manager, golfer, and well-deserved retiree. He was born on October 23, 1919, to R. H. and Hazel Gibbens in Tulsa, and was a resident of Tulsa for most of his life. He is survived by: 9 brothers and sisters, Russell Gibbons, Lorene Tribbey, Louise Owen, Tom Gibbens, Bob Gibbens, Delores Webster, Ida Mae Dooley, Bill Gibbens, and Jim Gibbens; 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Teresa Courtney of Tulsa, OK, Debra and Ron Mordecai of Glenpool, OK, and Rebecca and Jerry Lee of Edmond, OK; 6 grandchildren, Kimberley, Kara, John, Elizabeth, Jessica, and Kelsey; and 8 great-grand- children, Conner, Matthew, Jason, Hayden, Alex, Sam, Allie, Emily, as well as his best friend Mattie the Dog. He loved his family and golf; John was an avid golfer who relished the interaction with friends as much as the game itself and was quite capable of carding a fine score. He was a believer in keeping pace and typically pushed the game along as he did life itself. Although not such a big hitter, he sure could putt and made an excellent scramble partner. He was not above the occasional practical joke and you could see it in his smile when he got a good one over on someone. He was an engineer in the United States Army during World War II, and served in four major engagements including the Battle of Normandy, and received a Purple Heart due to injuries he sustained during his time in Europe. He will be a hero forever to his family and to his country. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends and will be remembered daily and loved always. Date: Tuesday, 12 February 1985 Mrs. Helen "Peg" Gilbert, 68, of rural Hiawatha, died early Monday morning, February 11, 1985, at the Oak Ridge Acres Nursing Home. She had been a resident of Hiawatha care homes for nine years. She was born at Powhattan, October 14, 1916, the daughter of Herbert and May Powers Sewell and had lived most of her life near Hamlin where she and her husband farmed. Mrs. Gilbert was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hiawatha. She was married to Melvin R. Gilbert, March 26, 1936, at Hiawatha. He died November 3, 1975. Survivors include two sons, Gary Gilbert of Castle Creek, N.Y., and Steve Gilbert of Robinson; two daughters, Mrs. John (Nancy) Gray of Warsaw, Ohio, and Mrs. Greg (Eileen) Crouch of Tahlequah, Okla.; a brother, Roy Sewell of Holton; two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Lynn of Holton and Mrs. Grace McDaniel of Wetmore; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Sewell, Jr., in recent years. Funeral services are tentatively planned for 10 a.m. Thursday, February 14, at the Casselman-Meek Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bert Buurman of the United Methodist Church of Robinson officiating. Date: Friday, 2 May 2008 Funeral services for Martha M. Fisher Gilbert, 96, Sabetha, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Popkess Mortuary Chapel in Sabetha. Burial will be in the Sabetha Cemetery. Mrs. Gilbert died Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Apostolic Christian Home. She was born May 31, 1911, on a farm south of Fairview, the daughter of Joseph T. and Hanna Wheeler Fisher. She moved to Sabetha in 1915, where she attended school and graduated as the valedictorian of her class in May 1929. Mrs. Gilbert worked at Farmers State Bank for 29 years. She was also a homemaker. She later worked at Sabetha Community Hospital and retired in 1980. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Sapphire Chapter 348 of the Order of Eastern Star, where she was a worthy matron in 1956 and was awarded a 50-year pin in November 1999. She married John W. Gilbert on Nov. 23, 1960, at First United Methodist Church in Sabetha. They shared 18 years of marriage. He died Nov. 26, 1978. Mrs. Gilbert was also preceded in death by a brother, Julian T. "Jack" Fisher and wife Ruth; and two sisters, Mildred and Pauline Fisher. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Sue Gudenkauf, Topeka; a son, John David Gilbert, Las Vegas; three grandchildren, Becky Spriggs and Matt Gudenkauf, both of Lawrence, and Mandy Commons, Pittsburg; and six great-grandchildren. Date: Wednesday, 11 July 1962 Ralph Gilbert, son of William and Mary Gilbert, was born Jan. 21, 1889, near Fairview, and passed away at his home in Kansas City, Mo., July 4, 1962 at the age of 73 years, 5 months, 13 days. On Feb 28, 1911, he was united in marriage to Atha Smith at Newkirk, Okla. They made their home on a farm near Fidelity, and then some time later moved to a farm near Granada. To this union were born two daughters and four sons. On Feb 27, 1924, Mrs. Gilbert passed away. Mr. Gilbert continued to farm for several years. After his children were grown he moved to Kansas City, where he worked for the Kansas City Railroad Terminal. He was retired in 1959. He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Elda Payne and Mrs. Ernest Lukert both of Sabetha, four sons, John and Robert of Sabetha, Melvin of Hamlin and William of Morrill, one sister, Mrs. William Owen of Hiawatha, two brothers, Willie of Corning and Raymond of Arrington, twenty-three grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a large number of nieces and nephews. Date: Wednesday, 4 April 1984 William J. H. (Bill) Gilbert, 65, whose home was eight miles southwest of Falls City, NE, died suddenly Friday evening, March 9, 1984. He had had a heart condition since 1972. A son of the late Ralph Gilbert and Atha G. Smith Gilbert, he was born March 11, 1918, at Newkirk, Okla. He moved with his family from Kewkirk to the Granada area and grew up there. The family moved to Capiooma and he attended Fairview High School and drove a school bus there from 1935 to 1937. On Dec. 8, 1937, he married Katherine Nohl at Holton. They established their home in Capioma and lived there and in the Woodlawn and Morrill areas until moving to their present farm in 1943. Mr. Gilbert was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge No. 963 and the Moose Lodge No. 315 in St. Joseph, Mo. He also served on the school board of the former District No. 86 for several years. Among the survivors are his wife, of the home; a son, Frederick James Gilbert, Falls City, NE.; two daughters, Shirley (Mrs. Charles) Mapes, Omaha, NE and Sharon (Mrs. Derek) Lake, Wheeling, Ill.; a brother, Robert Gilbert, Rockdale, Texas; two sisters, Elda (Mrs. San) Payne and Esther (Mrs. Ernest) Lukert, both of Sabetha; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren. Two brothers, Melvin and John, predeceased him. Services were held Monday, March 12, in the chapel of the Dorr Funeral Home in Falls City and were conducted by Rev. Ward Merritt. Organ music was by Mrs. Weddle. Mel McKim sang "How Great Thou Art" and "God Will Take Care of You." Honorary pallbearers included grandsons, Michael Gilbert and Patrick Chamberlain, both of Ainsworth, NE, Bruce Mapes, Omaha, NE, Dennis Lake, Twin Lakes, Wis., Kevin Lake, Rolling Meadows, Ill. and David Lake, Wheeling, Ill.

He was born March 15, 1929 in Carlisle to the late Kessell R. and Laura M. (Dick) Gordon. He had been a meat department manager at the former Beltzhoover Food Market, Carlisle, and was the former owner/operator of Gordon & Sons Electric, Shermans Dale; formerly attended Young's United Methodist Church; and was a member of the Shermans Dale fire and ambulance companies and an avid hunter. He was the widower of Gladys Barrick Gordon, who died in 1968. Surviving are four sons, Raymond J., Earnest R. and Dale K., all of Shermans Dale, and David A. of Newport; six daughters, Alice F. Yates of Scottsdale, Ariz., Donna M. Arnold and Hazel A. Blosser, both of Rohnert Park, Calif., Brenda K. Miller of Harrisburg, Glenda G. Gordon of Eugene, Ore., and Ada L. Date: Sunday, 31 July 1927 KILLED BY LIGHTNING Naomi Grafton, 12 , and her brother Omar, 7, were killed late yesterday by lightning which struck a tree under which they were playing near their home in North Buffalo township, Armstrong county near Kittanning. Several other children and Mrs Robert Grafton, mother of the two children who were killed, were stunned by the bolt. Mrs Grafton was standing on the back porch of her home within sight of the tree when her children were struck down. The tree was shattered.

Source: Date: Mrs. Amanda Josephine Greenawalt, wife of Fred Greenawalt, Five Forks, died at her home, Thursday evening, at 8 o'clock, after a long illness from intestinal trouble, aged 65 years, 9 months and 18 days. For several years Mrs. Greenawalt had not been in good health, but was able to be about. Four weeks ago she took her bed and from then on her condition was critical and her death was looked forward to at any time. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Benedict and was born near Goods Siding on the farm where her brother, George Benedict now lives. She resided there until her marriage to Mr. Greenawalt. After their marriage they removed to her late home at Five Forks. She was a member of the Lutheran church and a woman of warm impulses, charitable disposition and kindly manner, who will be much missed in her neighborhood. She is survived by her husband, one brother, George Benedict, near Goods Siding, and one sister, Mrs. Ida Duffield, near Goods Siding. He was born December 21, 1945 in Elkhart, Ind., the son of Emory and Viola (Eby) Gross. A devoted railroad employee, he retired after 36 years of service. He was an avid Cubs and horse racing fan and enjoyed visiting Hoosier Park. A doting grandfather, he loved spending time with his granddaughter. Date: Tuesday, 22 January 2008 Richard H. Grubaugh, 90, of David City, died Jan. 19 at St. Joseph's Villa in David City. Grubaugh was born Nov. 18, 1917 to Roy and Anna (Havel) Grubaugh in Linwood. He graduated from Rising City High School in 1936 and attended the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He married Carol Rolofson on August 20, 1940 in Wahoo. They managed various cafes in Lincoln until moving back to David City to run a local cafe in 1944. In 1946 he graduated from Reisch America School of Auctioneering in Mason City, Iowa. Dick and his brother, Marv, then began Grubaugh Brothers Auctioneers. For a number a years Dick and Marv operated the Nebraska Livestock Commission sale barn in Lincoln as a part of their auctioneering service. He helped jumpstart the auction careers of over a dozen auctioneers including several in Butler County. One was his grandson, Dennis Romshek, who became a partner in Grubaugh Brothers in 1983 until his death in 2001. He was a member of St. Mary's parish in David City, a past member, past president and board member of the Nebraska Auctioneers Association, a member of the board of directors of the Butler County Ag Society, which operates the Butler County Fair, where he served several years as president. He initiated the 4-H and FFA livestock subsidy sale at the fair. He was active in the Chamber and received the DC area Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service award for more than 55 years of service to Butler County and the David City community in 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and George Romshek, Jr.; grandsons, Dennis Romshek and Kevin Svoboda; great-grandson, Blake Svoboda; and great-great-grandson, Max Seager; brother, Marv Grubaugh; brother and sister-in-law, Al and Bess Grubaugh and sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Florence "Oz" Georlinger. Date: Friday, 4 March 2005 Chester A. Gustafson, 90, Lafayette, died at 12:10 a.m. March 3, 2005, in Mulberry Health and Retirement Center, where he had lived for about a year. Mr. Gustafson lived in the Stockwell area most of his life. He graduated from Wea High School in 1932. He worked for Aloca 30 years before retiring in 1976. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Mulberry. He was born July 10, 1914, in Tippecanoe County to Charles and Axia Swanson Gustafson. He married Gladys B. Rothenberger on Nov. 16, 1940, in Mulberry, and she died Feb. 6, 2005. Surviving are four sons, Charles G. (Judy) and Clarence N. (Robin), both of rural Lafayette, Edward A. (Bonnie) of South Bend and David L. (Barbara) of Mulberry; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. One brother, Richard, preceded him in death. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church with Pastor Barbara Dahl officiating. Calling will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Bodine Funeral Home, Mulberry, and one hour before Monday's service at the church. Burial will be in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, Lafayette. Memorials may be made to the church.

Date: Tuesday, 8 February 2005 Gladys B. Gustafson, 87, Lafayette, died at 9:45 p.m. Feb. 6, 2005, in Mulberry Health and Retirement Center, where she had lived since April 2004. Mrs. Gustafson lived in the Stockwell area for 60 years and was a homemaker. She raised chickens and sold eggs for Sykes Market in Lafayette. She was a member of Fair Haven Lutheran Church, which later became Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She was born Jan. 28, 1918, in Mulberry to Clarence and Susan M. Hurst Rothenberger. She married Chester A. Gustafson on Nov. 16, 1940, in Mulberry, and he survives. Also surviving are four sons, Charles (Judy) and Clarence N. (Robin) of rural Lafayette, Edward A. (Bonnie) of South Bend and David L. (Barbara) of Mulberry; one sister, Grace Gray of Thorntown; one brother, Herbert Ray (Grace) Rothenberger of Clearwater, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Herman and Bruce Rothenberger; and an infant sister, Mary Josephine Rothenberger, preceded her in death. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Gloria Dei Lutheran Church with Pastor Barbara Dahl officiating. Calling will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday in Bodine Funeral Home, Mulberry, and 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.

Shiner, who died in May. He was a laborer. Born in Palmerton, he was a son of the late LaRue and Leland (Staler) Leibenguth. Survivors: Stepson, Francis C. Groeller, with whom he resided; stepdaughter, Cindy S. Merics of Allentown; brother, Roland P. Leibenguth, and sister, Lois J. Leibenguth, both of Bethlehem; two stepgrandchildren.
